Amazon laying off about 16,000 corporate workers in latest anti-bureaucracy push

At the beginning of 2020, Amazon employed 800,000 workers. They now employ 1.5-1.6 million workers.

I get it, the doom and gloom news makes you sound smart to other doom and gloom losers. It just doesn't lead to a profitable long-term outlook.

The real story is the sudden spike in employment seen during COVID. Adding such context loses the doom and gloom click bait, though.

Getting worse and worse
finally got a worthwhile offer after months of looking :wow: This market is absolute hell brehs. I don't think id have even gotten the interview if my old manager wasn't a senior director at the company and give me a referral.

I hate always discussing him, but my boy has been casually looking at job offers after leaving Google last year to travel around the world on his motorcycle. He's been out of it for the past 8 months, hasn't updated his resume, and whatever.

The hiring manager of a major company reached out to him (unsolicited) directly and chatted it up for like an hour. Another one from a major gaming firm did the same. He's being actively recruited by a FAANG.

All of this without having made any real effort toward getting a job.

Again, man, focus on building. Firms are dying to hire the talented and skilled.

Nobody is saying people aren't finding jobs. But more people are losing jobs than finding one.
