NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Breezy and Trey also both had plenty of ballads., I don’t think it’s an artist thing so much as a generational one. won’t get into it, but social media, reality tv and a highly divorced cohort of late baby boomers and gen x, fukked up the perception of what love, vulnerability and commitment mean to young people, and that’s reflected in music...plus rap fully taking over as the dominant black music by the mid 00’s
I understand Chris n them do have ballads. But Trey himself will tell u that he took from Kellz. Kellz basically RUNNING shyt for a good while. It kinda made people stray away from the slower stuff. Because a lot of the shyt that he even wrote for everyone else in the early 00s was mostly the upbeat “thug in the club” rap/singing shyt. That definitely mixed with what u said fukked shyt up. So I agree with u there as well. I just think it’s both of our points out together.

You is a dishonest Negro go to his thread he clearly made a distinction between the 2

This literally after the first post

And after he made more which implies that Riley had Jams and Face Hits

This is why I said if that’s what Phonte means than he’s an idiot or doesn’t know enough about RnB or Babyface’s catalog.

Lot of dishonesty in this thread I love shattering myths. Nobody is shytting on Ballads, Ballads have it place in the black community and I seen Face fan's feeling some type of way and trying to say that ballads by face is for the grown and sexy. But Us Black Folks is a spiritual people and that's why when we play sexy songs that moves the spirit, we turn the ballads off and play jawns sexy spiritual jawn

yeah, that's pretty much how you can tell who knows their R&B, pre and and post, hiphop. The ones who have the post-hiphop tuned ear are the ones who keep associating R&B ballads with "Pop"

facts
Whenever I heard a dusty rapper or dusty poster talking R&B, the shyt I listen to and sounding stupid af, they are getting blocked. If you talking about R&B like you talk about rap, you will gett blocked and negged for bullshytting. In real life, I'll just smack the shyt outta you.

Son. There’s a reason there’s a thing called “Slow Jams”. Slow ballads can be jams too.

I'm going to say this Black People is diverse in music and taste there's a Place for Babyface and Nat King Cole, just a few days ago I was listening to Nat King Cole and Sammy Davis Jr so miss me what the childish bullshyt, because I'm well verse in all forms of Black Music and I know when it comes down to it us Black Folks goes with what moves the spirit, like I said we are a spiritual people and the spirit never lies

Yes.

the old articles from the 90s covered the generation gap/divide from mid to late 80s to 90s R&B

baby face still represented the old "grown and sexy" style

teddy represented the origins of modern "hiphop soul"

all facts

And you are correct about the 60 age plus because I touched on this about Face in the Kells thread. My Grandma was born in 1923 and she loved her some Babyface and my Aunt's who are in the mid 60' s early 70's loved some baby face in the 80' s.

Babyface always had a certain demographic and it was older women, single older women, and a household with no men in it.

Fam. I’m in the thread clearly stating that I’m going for Teddy in this battle. But nikkas need to chill with the misinformation about either one of their careers.

This....I rock with both but it's pretty obvious HipHop heads are gonna dig Teddy Riley more in a battle type setting for obvious reasons. Im not fan of people making it look like Babyface makes "pop" music for white people:stopitslime:

Prince Do Me Baby is a Slow Jam

Prince Diamond and Pearls is a Ballad

Bruh there's a difference between Hits and Jams, slow jams and ballads.

It's a Spiritual Thing
