trust me and don't get too hung up on their generalization, they mean the god that people are talking about because
1. the god concept is so tainted by pop culture that one can almost use the term generally and not refer to a god of the gaps or a deism deity (it's the same way ISIS can no longer be a fictitious spy agency on an animation tv show on FX)
2. logically they mean a common god not some esoteric concept, otherwise people would just be talking past each other
3. and lastly atheism is the sound that conscientious people make when try to force nonsense down their throat, otherwise there is little to talk about, in fact there is essentially NOTHING to talk about

I agree, I just find it ridiculous to be an atheist yet reject any other possibility of a God. But yeah, most of them are talking about god in the
judeo-christian sense, which I find highly improbable. But who's to say God is not a computer programmer from the future and reality is just a simulation. At this point our explanation the origin of the universe is a collection of theories some supported by greater evidence than others. I guess that's all it will ever be though

I've met several atheists in real life, and several on this board who claim they know god is not real. I agree that the burden of proof rests more squarely on the shoulders of a theist than an atheist. The point you bring up about certainty is most relevant. I just dislike when people claim to know these things for a fact. I became an atheist or more specifically an agnostic atheist because there was little to know evidence to support theism in my opinion. Atheism just has far more evidence in its favor

But atheist don't back their point or put up proof so how could their evidence in their favor. Half are scared to even consider themselves atheist

Did I not explain to you that I was a Christian before? I have all the perspective and understanding required. Don't suddenly try to remove knowledge from me because you think my claims are baseless.

If a theist fully embraced science he or she would realize that all religious texts are self contradicting and are of no substance whatsoever.
Bitter? I'm not bitter over a book, just disappointed.

Science and religion cannot, no matter who says it can or tries to, co-exist.
One contradicts the other, and only one will self correct.
