If it’s natural, we can’t stop it and we shouldn’t be trying to.

But that was never the point. No one has been advocating for that.

As for stopping the man made contributions, for sure

That's all anyone is talking about. We have the technology to create a zero-net carbon emissions. This is good. For us and the environment. We should do so.

while i do believe in human contribution to climate change - such as the hole we put in the ozone - how do we know that some of this isn't natural? the earth, over it's 4.5 billion year lifespan, has cycled through hotter and colder (ice age) periods, how do we know we're simply not heading into a hotter climate cycle?

:what: because the earth has ALWAYS had a delicate ecosystem and humankind has fukked it all up... the polar ice caps was frozen for a reason and now that they're melting because the earth is getting hotter due to man made fossil fuels and oil runoffs in earth warming it up slowly and now it's catching up to us... Alot of people below certain land mass levels are going to drown...

but the worse thing is that cacs in charge thinks it's a joke or got some sort of cryogenic fallout vault backup knowing full and well they fukked everyone over...:beli:

There is no "if it's natural", it isn't. Period. There's scientific consensus among people who study this for a living that earth is warming up much, much faster than it ever would naturally.

The fact that people think otherwise is a testament to how successful the right has been at making people think the existence of climate change is somehow a matter of opinion. :scusthov:

I’m directly involved with this, unfortunately. But we all gotta eat :yeshrug:

But, for real, I sometimes feel like I’ve sold out, making money by robbing future generations of their good environment. At work, we say, “at least we’re not working for big tobacco.” :francis:

Lol, this has nothing to do with the right and simply and inquisitive mind using knowledge that we have of global temperature change in the past. I’ve read scientific articles that do give credence to possibly entering a new temperature cycle. No shyt we’re tampering with the ecosystem as well, but human civilization, especially that of being able to track changes to the earth, is so new...we haven’t been around long enough to observe a shift

Your post most certainly came across as if you were saying we have the tech to stop both so let’s do that...

Lol there is nothing natural about what is taking place. Natural is the earth slowly warming over the course of millions of years not decades. There is a direct correlation with our use of fossil fuels and the increasing global average temp. At this point there are plenty of resources out there to do dutiful research on this topic so I will not waste my time going into detail.
However, I will say the cost of not doing something about this issue will far outweigh any cost of trying to do something. If we cannot avert catastrophic climate change we need to at least be preparing our society whats coming (food insecurity, massive migration, sea level rise etc.). And our government has the responsibility of telling the public about whats really happening. If people knew the true severity of the issue it might cause massive panic but it would also get us out of our stupor to demand action.

We don’t inherit this land from our parents, we borrow it from our children.

Too bad most parents just keep the shyt they borrow from their kids.

But we are observing shifts faster than the timeframes you're posting about.

What you're saying is literally a talking point....we're way past that point now. Its observed. Its fact

I don’t think you’re coming from a right wing vantage point, but I think brehs are just saying that the consensus has been established by those who study this and most of the doubts or arguments against are generally uninformed or in bad faith which very much resemble right wing talking points.

Also, climate science isn’t just something most people can digest with cursory reading. Assessing climate change involves understanding climate change proxies (ice cores, glaciers, tree rings) for constructing climate history. I studied that shyt in college and there’s shyt I don’t even know, so the expectation that every lay person will understand and thus be on board is folly.
