everyone knows how hard a worker Saban is, a lot of these coaches don't have any work ethic, have a crazy since of entitlement, and don't constantly seek to improve and stay ahead of the game. There is a reason Urban Myers has success in UF and OSU. You look at a guy like Freeze, buying escorts on the school phone. Stupid shyt.
Petrino dating your mistress and relaxing on a sunday morning motorcycle ride. McElwain unable to deal with the pressure, unorganized staff. I remember the story of a recruit talking about visiting UF and McElwain forgetting they invited him trying to make him pay extra money, never talking to any coach and etc, when he went to Tuscaloosa, they had everything ready for him, got to meet and talk directly with Lane Kiffin, then talked to Saban one on one and everything, decided to go to Bama. There is a lot of shyt coaches don't do, and it shows up on the field. Butch Jones is a great recruiter terrible Xs and Os coach with no feel for a game, is just out of his league in the SEC, mianly because he didn't want to hire a real OC and hand it over to him completely for ego and job security.

That said Sumlin is already one of the best coaches Texas A&M has had especially to do what he has done in the SEC. Never before have they have this length of success where they routinely win 9 maybe 10 games, and he is doing this in the SEC. No less than 8 wins a season in the SEC and having to go against Bama, LSU, and Auburn every year in the SEC West, at a 2nd rate school . A&M is a school that doesn't know how good they have it
real post

A&M wants to believe they can hit 11 and 12 wins but thats is more the exception than the rule

Saban established his run by entrenching his coaching philosophy in that entire athletic department. i forget his name but the AD Mal Moore (RIP) basically said here are the keys sir

most coaches just dont have the clout to demand this and also keep it going.

Ya'll keep hollering bout Gruden, nobody younger than 27 probably knows who the fukk dude is. That nikka name don't ring no bells outside of being that guy that does the monday night football broadcast.

Kids have phones and the internet. They can look him up in a second and see he's a super bowl winning coach. That brings instant credibility. Just like Saban and Meyer get instant credibility for those college titles. Kids wanna play in the NFL above all else. All Gruden has to do is show them the super bowl ring and say I can help you get to the next level.

You're crazy if you think Gruden wouldn't kill it in recruiting.

Go and look up the instate talent in the state of Tennessee for the classes of 2019 and 2020. There is more talent in the state of Tennessee right now than in every other state in the country except for Florida, Texas, Georgia, and California.

If Tennessee becomes the #5 most talent laden state for recruits ahead of Louisiana, then UT should expect to be a perennial NC title contender.

There is too much talent in the state of Tennessee now for there to be any expectations short of being a NC title contender. This ain't the Tennessee of 5-10 years ago where they needed to get talent from other states. Tennessee can now build a championship contender from instate recruits like LSU.
Tennessee really have stepped of their HS coaching in the last five years.

The decision to fire Fulmer will go down as one of the worst SEC coaching changes in history

Miami making them feel stupid after this weekend :myman:

fullmer wasn't even old like bowden or anything

breh gruden hasn't coached in YEARS
being a super bowl winning coach means nothing, nfl is totally different than college

why would gruden leave the booth where he makes like 7 mill a year gets summers off only have to do one game a week to go coach where he has to be away from his family, its a year round job, dealign with boosters, the media for probably the same salary?

They need to hire a proven guy like Chip or Gary patterson who said he'd leave for the right amount of money.

Jon gruden gonna just be another harbaugh at best. :heh:

I don't even see why gruden would leave his cushy gig for the grind of college coaching something he has never done before.

gruden hasn't coached in more than a decade and was .500 coach in tampa bay

I mean jeff fisher has had more recent success as a coach than gruden

I would say he had about 4 hot years, and 2 of those were those last 2 years in Oakland, which I do believe if they didn't get screwed by the tuck rule his last year there, they might have had a chance, but then again, they would have gone against the Greatest Show on Turf...:manny:

Yeah those TV gigs are cushy jobs. NFL jobs are more of a time grind than college(NFL HCs work 80-90H a week/11 months of the year), but there's a reason those guys like Dungy/Cowher/Gruden haven't jumped back in the mix.

Terrible coach bad hires wasted too much talent Tennessee in 2015 should've been the team to take the jump

:snoop: You ain't lying. That was the year. The team was extremely talented, motivated, and was ready to make the jump. Remember we led both Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma that year in the 4th quarter only to have Butch Jones blow those games with horrible in-game decision-making.

I said it at the time. People are gonna look back at those 2015-2016 Tennessee football teams and wonder how Butch Jones was only able to win 9 games each season.

Lots of star NFL players were on those teams. Starting with Alvin Kamara, who is ripping apart the NFL right now, but for some reason was on the bench most of the time thanks to Butch Jones incompetence.

I don't know. But according to the latest reports he's about to do it. He's already contacting other coaches about becoming assistants. And the Tennessee AD told recruits that they would know who the coach is in a few days not weeks and that he would immediately be able to start recruiting. Since the college season is still on-going, that can only mean a guy who is out of the game right now.

Whether it makes sense to you or not, Jon Gruden is right now the overwhelming favorite to be the next Tennessee football coach. Just go and look up the Vegas betting odds.
