Listen t2 is probably the greatest SPECTACLE ever put on film

They blew up: 2 semis, helicopter, policevan, dozen+ cop cars, and an entire building complex… for a movie. Will never see that again. Ever. Cg still holds up.

BUT

Terminator 1 is a PERFECT movie

Direction. Score. Story. Look. Action. Acting wasnt perfect, but its why arnold IS arnold. Linda ham obv killed 2 acting wise.

T2 is prolly best sequel not named godfather 2, and gf 1 greatest film per old style. A motion picture

Terminator was just different. It was like the mastering of irl effects, computers, direction , etc all came together as one. When the t800 comes out the fire…. The janky stopmotion made it scarier. The title screen with the skull. The flashbacks. It conveys so much with so little said. Gun store. Tech noir. Police station. These scenes were super influential. Ill be back was so big in 80s/90s

I just needed to say that. T2 cant exist without 1 nor would it be what it got to be without t1 breaking down the doors the way it did.

Obviously t2 is just bigger. Perfect too. I bought a dts 5.1 surround sound system just for the t2 dvd release. The first scene with the lasers is just wow. Still think t1 flashes were better tho. Scarier

70s-90s = prime american films.

I miss old effects.

Seeing T2 in theaters as a youngin was a top 5 experience. When those pre credits scenes hit then the theme song came in, shyt had me like :ahh:

But yeah I love T1 and overall its my favorite Term flick. But T2 was everything i could've hoped for in a sequel, the only movie in modern times imo that matched that hype was probably TDK. But even that still doesn't match, for me anyway, how T2 hit.

With that all being said, Aliens is still my favorite sequel and maybe my favorite movie ever. Cameron was in the fukkin zone.

Some directors would kill to have a movie like T1 or T2 in their filmography. Cameron has both of them.

And to be fair i can't tell which one is better, i feel like the answer depends of my mood at that moment.

Also, it's crazy that the best "nuclear bomb scene" is still in Terminator 2. That shyt has been haunting me for decades now.

The special effects in T2 were second to none and waaaay ahead of its time. You were never gonna get a better Terminator machine after the T-100. But I have to go with T1. It just has more replayability to me overall and I never get bored with it.

I liked 2 more as a kid, but when I rewatched it many years later, I prefer 1. Mainly due to the writing, pacing, and overall dark feel to it.

James Cameron made two of the best sequels ever. And like with T2, Aliens also had more action blockbuster elements to it from Ridley Scott’s original. Both Alien and T1 have more horror and suspense elements to it.

I get the impression that because of the tonal shifts, people generally prefer either Alien/T1 or Aliens/T2 rather than a mix of the two. But I actually like Aliens more than Alien, and T1 more than T2

I'm a Alien > Aliens, T2 > T1 guy

Aliens takes damn near 45 minutes to get moving on a recent rewatch, though it does have the GOAT 3rd act in cinema.

I also think people undersell how dark T2 is on it's own. No big budget sequels these days really look like T-2, like the Nuclear Bomb sequence or the when T-1000 is chasing Sarah and em with the truck on the freeway.

Yes Aliens has the best 3rd act ever. But the slow burn was necessary instead of rushing into the action they actually gave us characters to grow fond of. Cameron did it right.

We saw that with Bad Boys 2.
Yes but it might as well been cgi because i cant remember a thiny about it and bb2 aint terminator fukkin 2. T2 had impact

Bb2 didnt have an army of exoskeletons by stan winston or a t1000 full cgi in 91

Everything was at its peak and hit at once.
