I can tell you first hand that you need a father when you are a young male.

I am already strong willed and I had a good father figure in my grand dad, but there are things ive did, and mistakes I would have never made, if my father was present.

I applaud mothers who raised their child on their own but it isnt supposed to be like that.

A son or daughter without a father or a father figure is not complete. Even worse because without a good father or father figure around they might be influenced by a bad one.

Some people need their fathers in their life as guidance, man. A lot of cats are damaged because their father was absent. Father your sons/daughters breh.

My pops and my mom were both in my life but we've never kicked knowledge or anything like that. They didn't "raise" me per se. Everything I learned about life was from experiences, music, literature and stuff. They jes fed and sheltered me. I can't think of time where I actually sat down and had a conversation with them. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything or losing anything by not having a strong relationship with them but I appreciate them though.

Conversely, there are a lot of people damaged by fathers that were around and guided them down a terrible path.

I'm with @Yuffie and feel it's only the quality of your upbringing that matters.

If you have a parental figure that cares about you can seek role models in places where you feel it might lack at home.
