Tessa Thompson refused to say Philly slang “Jawn” in “Creed III.” Is anyone else too good to use African American slang?

I noticed this…I can’t remember if she did the same in Creed II. But it was noticeable here, I was thinking maybe it was a directorial decision….like they’re living a different life now, distant from where they come from?

From what Creed was wearing to Tessa’s lack of a Philly ‘accent’/slang. It would all play into the clash with Dame/Majors story arc.

(And it’s a real thing that happens with some folk….Kanye as an example)

Still a good movie overall, didn’t really hinder the overall performance.

Speaking of her decision, Thompson said that Bianca has evolved beyond the word having moved to Los Angeles and it was important to portray that change.

I said to them, 'I'm not saying jawn in this movie because we've heard it, we've done it. I want to break new territory,'" Thompson explained. "Not saying 'jawn' was also a way of saying inside of the filmmaking that you are going to witness someone that is constantly evolving."

It's fine.
I hate when actors, who obviously don't speak or use certain words or dialect in real life, try and force slang terms. It sounds cringey as fukk.
Insecure used to have that same problem IMO when they used the n-word.

Plus, plenty of folks in the community don't use slang or speak proper.

Of course, you also change as you grow. They're living in the Hollywood Hills in a $20 million plus mansion so lifestyle change.
