Tessa Thompson refused to say Philly slang “Jawn” in “Creed III.” Is anyone else too good to use African American slang?

It's fine.
I hate when actors, who obviously don't speak or use certain words or dialect in real life, try and force slang terms. It sounds cringey as fukk.
Insecure used to have that same problem IMO when they used the n-word.

Plus, plenty of folks in the community don't use slang or speak proper.

Of course, you also change as you grow. They're living in the Hollywood Hills in a $20 million plus mansion so lifestyle change.

The way she said “Jawn” sounded weird in Creed I to be honest. But it’s true. Not everyone from Philly speaks that way. That’s like saying everyone from New York says “Son” or “B”.

Honestly I wouldn't say words I don't use in my daily vocabulary either. I barely use slang words that came from other regions in this country.

Not gon lie....I figured every New Yawk nikka said "son"....at least Brooklyn brehs.

:russ:.

I do like the regional stereotypes.

New York brehs can talk themselves out of a death sentence in Saudi Arabia.

Philly nikkas are like a more "blue collar" version of NYC.

DC is smooth talking

Midwest nikkas don't talk nearly as much shyt but will always back it up with knuckles and steel.

South depends on where because everyone has guns so you gotta weigh the consequences when dealing with anyone

Not really a big deal.

The timeline is kinda screwed up, but they moved to LA before they found out she was pregnant. Their daughter is like 8-10. So someone not using slang from a place they haven't lived in a decade isn't a big deal.

english actors are good at generic american accents but not specific regional ones. I'm surprised they even cast her to play a women from philly. should just be safe and say she from michigan or something.
