NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Point taken, but those MCs don't overdo it. Overdo it to a point where it diminishes the overall "feel" of an album. It gets to the point where it's overkill. Or maybe Lupe just doesn't have certain qualities that Nas and Pac have that would make it enjoyable to listen to for a whole album. Maybe Lupe lacks Pac's commanding and crowd joining charisma and passion or Nas' street poetical flair and ill voice. He's not a magnetic enough MC anymore to me. Just weird and patronizing most of the time. Or maybe it's the beats. Let's be real...as good as some of the beats are on Tetsuo and Youth, none of them have that head nodding, "I'll throw this on in a blunted out cypher with my homies" dopeness. There's just something about this album that doesn't make it enjoyable to a point where I'd want to listen to it again. I tried 3 times, but naw. 3.5 album to me and I definitely don't have some type of "inferiority" complex because I feel like Lupe has some MC superiority over my favorite MCs. His brand of raps and this album just aren't that great to me. Good, but not great...and definitely not classic like some delusional cats are calling it.
I respect Ur opinion bro..although I respectfully disagree.. it's cool...

It is. And one held by alot of people on here, it looks like.
:usure:

There are people in this thread saying this, but in general I think The Coli fukks with the album. And I've yet to see someone straight up call the album bad. Like I've been saying, the only thing people calling Lupe out for on the album is for going too hard over their heads. Lupe knew this would be the reaction he was gonna get too though, lol

Lupe already apologized to the "too cryptic" crowd on Mural

Apologize for my weird mix
What taste like hot dogs and tear drips

And looks like pantomime and clear bricks
And smells like shotguns and deer piss

They on their hunt, kind of salty that I'm going hard
First part of a party, that I throw in parts
One minute you're playing pool, next minute you're throwing darts
But that's how you do with a party that you throw in bars

nikkas gotta hunt for shyt wrong with the album, and yes nikkas salty he went so hard lyrically on it

It is way overkill, it sounds like he's doing it to do it rather than to make a great song or be effective. It's simple shyt that he's mad over complicated for no reason. That doesn't impress me at all. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was doing that shyt deliberately to impress his hardcore nerd demographic so they eulogize about him like he's God and is kind of trolling in a sense by throwing some of that shyt together. Because he is capable of better than that, but he probably feels like what's the point if I can do this and get so much praise. Some fans fukk an artist up.

He doesn't have certain qualities Nas or Pac have, particularly on this project. People are focusing on the wrong shyt, he's missing a lot of shyt MC and artist wise on the album. The inflections for instance aren't up to par at all, Pac's were perfect, and Nas brings it across when he needs to too. Plus Lupe's voice doesn't help either, both Pac and Nas have a stronger presence on their joints.

Nas can get conceptual but he can maintain the relatability and emotional connection during the song to hit home with the listener in an intellectual AND emotional and musical way. Lupe is forcing 1 aspect which is the puzzle shyt too far and very much missing the emotional aspect and even lacking in the musical/artistry sense.

Some people are literally calling Lupe THE greatest rapper of all time now and this album the greatest in history lol....

I think y'all nikkas feel threatened that Lupe shyttin on y'all favorite rappers rhymewise...on some insecure shyt...that's the only way I can see a nikka hatin on a song like Mural...
That's why I fukk with Lu. He be saying all this in the music

A word game back up plan that can dam lakes
Backup, the wordplay playing at the man's states
Means I can still be the man if the dam breaks
And when demand brakes I'm reflectious, what they can't face
My peer'll still treat the mirror like it's a fan base

People are highly delusional lol, they are literally ignoring others opinion's on the album cause it doesn't fit in with theirs and acting like it don't exist lol.

Most people think it's a good album, some think it's great and than there's a good amount that think's it just ok, nothing spectacular.

And who the hell are "salty" that he decided to take the route he did on this album? Name names, breh.

And it's true Lupe can make whatever album he wants, he's an artist, he's entitled do that shyt, but in turn in a commercial release others are entitled to critique it. We don't all have to love it if we don't feel that way.

On some real sh!t, alot of ya'll cats try to sh!t on Ruler, but this post sums up Lupe, the Tetsuo and Youth album and his nerd fanbase, better than any other post I've read in here.

Just read the posts in this thread fam.

People in here saying he went too hard lyrically and that he didn't let up...you yourself said the album was overkill. But you also can't call the album trash.

The rant about queens nearly ruins "Mural" for me. "Prisoners" Pt 2 is an excellent record, but it's bound to Pt 1, which I don't care for at all. This is one of the first albums I've heard where I thought the rapper would benefit from an editor. Not an executive producer, but someone to actually edit the pages in Lupe's rhyme book. Almost every track has a bunch of good ideas and a bunch of bad ideas working in concert. It's fascinating to hear, but rarely enjoyable.

Didn't call it trash. I think it's a good album, just nothing special. 3.5/5. And yea, what he did on here was overkill.

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
and Ur sayin its too long for a rap song which I believe is untrue...If u say u don't fukk wit the song..that's cool...but unless u felt that way about other long hip hop songs...it doesn't sound like a valid opinion to me...and there's PLENTY of classic songs thruout different genres of music that is as long if not longer than 8 minutes...I bet u thought Princes "Purple Rain" was dope...right?...there's ALOT of dope songs that are long...Too Short Freaky Tales the saga continues...Kanye's Last Call is fukkin 12 minutes....Jay Electronica Act 1...15 minutes...I can keep goin fam...U can't tell an artist how long THEIR song should be..lol
U cant compare Mural to R&B songs with bridges and choruses and other melodic/musical variations so all that shyt is out.

I never heard Act 1.... but Last Call has a hook and a captivating narrative. So no it's not just the length, it's that the song is 8 minutes long without, in my opinion, justifying that inordinate amount of time. There's no way Ye could have cut down Last Call and made it as good. And the existence of good 10 minute rap songs doesnt mean every rap song that long is dope too.

And Im sure if people just said they dont fukk with the song you'd take issue with that... you've pretty much argued with anybody in here who's had a less than perfect opinion of this album. If u like the album cool but don't try and silence or marginalize anyone who doesn't like it as much as you do.
