I'm from the bx too and I ain't never heard no nikka bump K rino or Chino XL and the crazy part is Chino Xl is from the Bronx

The streets matter, but are you in them?

At this precise moment? No, in my house lol. But I am in the streets and know enough people in the streets to know what's going on and who people are fukking with. Infact that's my primary information resource, not only but primary. When there was a thread about who the streets fukked with I broke it down very accurately, I'm not saying I know everything in every part of the world, like a Japanese hood lol but know enough. Dudes are lying if they saying Lupe is huge in the streets and the people in them are saying this is the greatest album ever and going on rap genius to look at album covers with babies on them. That's not happening, Lupe has a significant nerd fan base though.

The guy who spits conspiracy theories over outdated production
Paris Tokyo, Superstar > K rino career

Lol you obviously haven't heard K-Rino properly as this can be easily disproved. But the point was on a less subjective matter, it was about vocabulary usage, and trust me K-Rino has utilized more words than Lupe career wise. Subjective opinions are cool, but when it gets down to something more factual it is what it is.

The thing is you ridicule Lupe for not being big in the streets, but in the same breath big up Krino and Chino XL two relatively known underground rappers who don't get bumped in anybody's whip in the streets. Also are you going to really tell me than street nikkas are listening to K rino conspiracy raps, ain't nobody bumping that shyt the streets like dumb drill rap

I'm not ridiculing Lupe for not being in the streets, I'm saying the streets aren't rating this album like the nerds are. K-Rino does get bumped in the streets, Chino does too actually, funnily enough, but in certain sections, Mexican dudes and Latino dudes in general that in the street fukk with Chino, Chino is supported by a lot of them dudes, the Boo Yaa Tribe's, Latin Kings even. I'm not saying Chino is bumped in every hood in the world. K-Rino is bumped in Texas though by a lot of street dudes, even in London he is bumped and respected, as he is throughout the whole of U.K. Styles P gets a lot more play in the streets than Lupe, a bunch of rappers do. Anyway this is really veering off into some next shyt. It's not about street credibility, that's not the point, the point is a lot of real dudes or street dudes aren't fukking with Lupe's music, cause they don't relate to that. Pac and Nas and them are loved and respected, cause they actually made relatable dope music, KRS-One, and a bunch of others. Lupe has a small niche fan base. This is also all relative in terms of how famous they are, Lupe is a pretty famous artist, a lot of people know him, but most people aren't feeling his style like that anymore, even from the gate he had a big nerd following with the whole skateboarding shyt. Mobb Deep, Cormega, Raekwon, these are artists who the streets fukk with. Z-Ro, Face and can go on.

But regardless it doesn't matter, if you like it you like it, but it doesn't appeal to me or people I know, I don't think I am friends with even 1 Lupe fan anymore and I know literally 1000's of Hip Hop heads. At the end of the day, you like the album, I don't, it's all good, I'm not losing any sleep over you liking it, don't lose any of me not liking it.

Agree, but i thought should let you know Lupe is more street certified than half of the dudes you listed especially the Goat ballerina Pac and Project window watcher Nas

I'm talking about what people listen to, the streets hugely like Pac or Nas more than Lupe, it's not even remotely close.

A lot of people are saying songs "shouldn't" be this or that or albums "should" be like this or that. It's fine to have your own tastes but this "should" and "shouldn't" just comes off as "I don't like it." If songs "shouldn't" be complicated or obscure, then we might as well get rid of Wu while we're at it too.

It's legitimate to not like anything, but when you look at art or music or books, it's pointless to look at the work you think they "should" have made. You look at what you think they tried to do and judge that. If you think the execution of that was weak, you point out better examples. If you think what they tried to do is a pointless exercise or stupid, that's cool too. But this whole songs shouldn't be this or that is wrong. At one point people were saying you shouldn't just have a break for 3 minutes and a performer just rhyming. Obviously that was wrong. Those people were just saying "I don't like it" and were trying to enhance their opinion with should and shouldn't.

I think lupe set out to make a multi-themed album that was as complex as he could. On that front I think it's relatively successful, at least in today's hip hop. Whether you like that or not is up to you. But there's no should or shouldn't in art.

All good breh should you choose to proceed to the next level it will be there for you to enjoy.

Songs with up to 4 meanings going on at the same time, quadruple entendres and hooks deeper than most rappers whole verses over great production is exactly what I want out of an album. I like mental stimulation.

I respect that, and I feel the same way.

He does stuff to work on multiple levels but the first level is always missing.

It's like playing a videogame for the first time and starting on world 5

Essentially he's preaching to the intellectual choir cause the people who need his message don't have the patience to be deciphering shyt. That's why someone like tupac was a threat and he is not.

I still love his music for what it is though. Artistically he's raising the bar.
