:salute:

Wholeheartedly agree with you. At first I was excited and listened to it str8 thru and was like okay i just missed all of that. Second listen I went to rapgenius and by the 3rd song i was like fukk that, Im not trynna research a whole album worth of lyrics to "get it". Im just trynna hear some good music.

And this is 1 of the reasons you're dope at what you do. You know what it's about.

@Big Mel what do you think of the album?

It's the only dope album he's ever made. I haven't been able to really scrutinize the lyrics because I just don't generally care to but those lines Walt highlighted are certainly bad when read.

2 things this album has going for it that his previous sub par, falsely hailed "classics' don't are good beats and Lupe rapping like he has a pair for once.

I don't really care about Lupe in either direction, love or hate. His music doesn't do a lot for me, and I tend to forget he exists until I'm reminded by one of his pseudo-intellectual outbursts about a societal issue, one of the numerous threads about his puerile trolling on twitter, or his fervent stans declaring him the greatest, smartest, most lyrically complex rapper in history.

But I took notice when this new album came out, because I hadn't seen such over-the-top, ludicrous reactions from a stanbase to a rap album's transcendent brilliance since the Killah Priest album, where people were levitating and unlocking ancient philosophical secrets mid-thread.

So I downloaded the album, listened to it 7 times (the first 3 so I could genuinely develop an opinion on how good the album was; the final 4 because two things about the album were truly enjoyable for me - the production and the laugh-out-loud goofiness of some of the self-indulgent, faux-deep lyrics), and decided to make a post in the official thread that was so absurd and nonsensical that it was meant to serve as a parody of just how ridiculous the stan reviews of the album were... but people actually dapped it. Because the stanbase has gone so cultishly overboard with this fukking album, that my parody post seemed par for the course, really. Never mind the stupid ass Matryoshka Doll analogy I made up on the spot; the cliche references I make to ancient, dead languages and symbols; nor the bold and baseless claim I make about Lupe inventing the quintuple entendre and boiling complex philosophical and mathematical concepts down to their essence in a simple rhyming couplet. What really blew my mind is I cited some of the worst lyrics on the album as examples of Lupe's genius, and no one batted an eye. Truly, if any other rapper had the gall to spit "such is life: odd as egg mcmuffins at night" cats would mock him endlessly. "Slippin like permission?" "Trippin like field?" This is complex lyricism? Sounds like filler in a battle rap round that would elicit groans from the audience.

Here's the post:

I mean, how the fukk could anyone take that post seriously?

And then there's the unlistenable self-indulgence of Mural:

"And not rain like, rain man or like rain dance
Or rain like a slight chance of rain when it's raining
Or rein like deer slaves to Santa Claus sleigh man
But reign like Queens that reign over made man
And not Queen like Queen killer
Rhapsody bohemian Queen
But Queen like white glove wave hand
And not wave hand like it's a heat wave
So you make a fan by waving your hand
I'm talking wave like you saying "hey"
Man, and not hay for horses..."

:snooze:

Production on this joint is dope though. And I'm happy his stans got an album without embarrassing reinterpretations of Modest Mouse choruses. I won't be keeping this rambling bullshyt in rotation at all.

:manny:
I'm usually not a fan of trolling, but what you did in the Lupe thread is how it should be done :wow:
To wait patiently, letting all the stans dap you up :wow:
The flip it on them in another thread :wow:
Unless your original post is the truth and you're really trolling us now :ohhh:
I'm about to read both of your posts backwards and see if I can figure it out :ohhh:

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Nah, what happened was, the fans and listeners of the album gravitated to the discussion of the album in the Official Thread and some of the posters on here can't stand how active the thread has been.

The majority of the threads made outside of that thread about the album are troll threads or retarded comparison threads solely made to get the Lupe haters in there to put the album down.
:mjlol:

So the comment, "Till stans started beatin us over the head with this is a 10/10 album" is complete bullshyt. Nobody was on here making threads saying Tetsuo & Youth is the GOAT album, there wasn't any of that. There was one thread made to shyt on J. Cole's album, but generally speaking? I've see WAY worse reactionary threads made for an album release by an artist's stans than this album has.

I guess beating you over the head with praise for the album means, "I lurked the T&Y thread and peeped how highly people think about the album"
:camby:
Basically...nikkas soundin like some straight up haters in this thread and I HATE using that word...lol...I just don't have any other way to explain it...fans of the album was mindin they business in the official thread...

It's not even really trolling, it's more an experiment to see if people would co sign the nonsensical bullshyt he said and they did lmao. shyt is hilarious, cause that's exactly what they are doing regarding Lupe on the album lol. It is an epic experiment that has so much meaning and value to it lol, that's why dudes are mad cause it exposes a lot lol, dudes will co sign some nonsensical bullshyt like that lol. And they thought he was serious lmao. But like someone said that wasn't the most ridiculous post in the thread even though it was completely made up lol, the execution was perfection. If you can't figure it out you just a baby, if you figure how to figure the figuring out of the figuring you just a baby too lol....but I know what people are gonna say, you don't get it cause..... you just a baby lol.

I love the album and I love complex lyricism.

Honestly, I don't even think Lupe is as complex as people make him out to be. He just makes a lot of obscure references within his metaphors. If you under the reference, more times than not, you'll understand the line.

I do agree some of his fans look way deeper into lines that aren't there but every fan does that

Was so hype for this album :mjcry:

Was feeling some of the LITA tracks :obama:

A lot of this is just not enjoyable music. This seems like music for people to sit with their boys and feel smarter than them, not sit around and enjoy the tracks. On some

":youngsabo: I bet you don't know what he meant there"

":smugdraper: You see what he did there? Let me break it down for you (because I was on rap genius all night forcing meanings out of nonsense)"

then your boys be like ":ehh: cool, but is it enjoyable MUSIC though?"

A science book is a great read, but it doesn't mean it would translate into great music. And just because you don't like it doesn't mean you don't get it.

with that being said, album is still 7/10 :mjpls:

People act like the overly complex lyricism takes away from the musicality of the album and I think that's false.

You can enjoy this album alot even if you don't get what he's saying fully. You will understand the basic concept of every song, the beats knock and the flow is on point on every song. You don't have to be a genius at lyrics deciphering to thorough enjoy this album

The actual concept of the album IS ridiculous tho. Whether you like the album or not.

That's why it's so easy to make up some crazy shyt & dozens of nikkas trying to decipher the context will take outlandish shyt to face value.

It's Lupe Fiasco after all.
