Lol dudes are so upset. So the protocol should be let people hype something up as mind blowing amazing lyrics but you're not allowed to analyse it or state your opinion if you disagree? Lol. So someone who listened to the album multiple times fully and in depth isn't allowed to say their opinion on the work? Lol. However much you dislike it I'm not going to stop, I will speak about it to my heart's content. Seems like people don't want it to be broken down cause they don't want the wackness highlighted. If the shyt is the truth it will stand up to anything anyone can say, you shouldn't be mad at someone critiquing something. I love the album and I love complex lyricism.

Honestly, I don't even think Lupe is as complex as people make him out to be. He just makes a lot of obscure references within his metaphors. If you under the reference, more times than not, you'll understand the line.

I do agree some of his fans look way deeper into lines that aren't there but every fan does that

He clearly draws from a wide range of experiences/reading... whatever. And his ability to draw on all that shyt and make connections is his strength. Its not some shyt you can study for, it has to already be in your brain...

Its a good tape but hasn't really resonated with me either.

For me the last great Lupe songs I liked after enemy of the state is all black everything and double burger with cheese.

In fact I think double burger with cheese is in contention for one of Lupe's best tracks of all time.

why ? because you understand everything he is saying . you "digest " all the references . Now lets say a average white guy hears the song , guess what ? he is not gonna "enjoy" the song . But if he watches those movies and comes back and listens , he might agree with you and say , " I think double burger with cheese is in contention for one of Lupe's best tracks of all time ".

But no...u keep repeating the "just a baby" line as if that goes against the case of this album's depth

But good writers of all genres that contain songs, all use repetition such as that to make their lines memorable

What makes that line so good tho was that in using the "just a baby" as a sort of period to a sentence he also managed to effortlessy reference classic hip hop albums in a way that most people who first heard that part of the verse would not catch it

"Rain like a slight chance of rain when its raining"
His own silly way of clearing up the homophone of "girls reigning all over the world"
and giving all types of way the homophone of "reign" which is "rain" is used and clarifying that is not the "rain" he is talking about so which is why he says

"And not rain like, rain man, or rain like rain dance
Or rain( like a slight chance of rain when its raining"

So that line basically says

Not rain like how its used in rain man or in rain dance
or not how its used in a slight chance of rain when its raining

Nothing wrong with this line in the surrounding context and it's actually a pretty cool line
