I ain't too proudful to learn. I've been meaning to teach myself some of that.
What made you think of the Kabbalah connection specifically?
Big worlds (sephiroth) have little worlds (lower sephiroth on the tree of life) that feed on their velocity (basically the influence of one sephiroth can affect the whole tree. There's 3 different paths on the tree of life, and all are connect by lines (other paths).
And...
Big Worlds = Major Label
Lesser Worlds = Artists
Reach if I've ever read one in this thread. Explain what u mean though about the album story backwards

Breh, Lupe has said there are literally like 3 to 4 different themes going on in some of these songs at the same time. One of the themes in Dots & Lines is definitely about the music industry and not signing to a major label

Exactly the reason why I made this fukking threads, posts like that^

I mean, even the verses he's spitting lines that connect to this, but just tying back to the geometry theme. I guess I'm just saying the song isn't just about 1 thing. On the surface he's spitting about Sacred Geometry of course.

These lines let me know that he's talking about his thoughts about the music industry and Atlantic's antics during his time there

See big whirls have little whirls that feed on their velocity
And little whirls have lesser worlds and so on to viscosity

To make gold from garbage is not the alchemical point of this math
But truth be told it's the pursuit of gold that turns the goal of men into trash
The soul's gold and they turning gold into cash

And of course the hook where he's saying, "Dooooooooooon't sign/sine"

Yeah me again, ALL my time? Lol. This is what I mean, people so caught up in their feelings/stanning they don't have any sense of reality lol. Check my threads, and posts too actually and you'll see have been speaking about masses of shyt. I just posted in this cause was at the top of the page, so opened and read it.

It's not about words, it's about him using those words in a corny way, I've shown people some of the bars and they thought it was trash, some are even MC'S, they better than Lupe too lol. Lmao that's corny and doesn't even make sense lol, I'm gonna post what I want, I'm not bullying Lupe or nothing, he's a grown man, I don't hate Lupe at all, I think when I've seen him speak which isn't hugely but when I have he's come across quite likable and I like some of his songs/music, I don't like THIS album cause there's a lot I don't like about it, because a lot of it is subpar to me and is getting ridiculously over hyped and over blown. But I've praised Lupe work even some ardent Lupe fans don't like, and some higher than they praise it, I like Lupe WHEN he is dope, but I can't like him when he's being wack... sorry.. And you're gonna say or think how is he wack on this album and most probably put a smiley, there's numerous awful lines on the album, so many, and people are hyping it like it's the greatest lyrical displays ever, and a lot of people have said really ignorant things, no-one, no Lupe fan or anybody else has explained the lines I've mentioned to me and why they are dope, just ignoring the topic or trying to make excuses, when people hype shyt as THE best lyrics you have to be able to break that shyt down, I've broken it down and seen a lot of corny and sub par shyt that nobody can justify so how it's dope. If you put something on a pedestal it has to stand up, if it doesn't that isn't my fault, I'm not gonna dikkride anybody if I don't like it and am gonna be objective/honest.
You know what. I'm sorry for earlier.
I actually just read this.
You're not a bad guy, although I would say you've put a ton of energy into persuading people to agree with your opinions, that was my gripe. I just come into threads of things I like and enjoy them with like minded brehs... My only gripe with ya.

What lines were "unexplainable" to you? That seems like a healthier discussion to have.

Truthfully I feel like a lot of folks are pumping this album up as a gift from God because it feels like the kind of album you're supposed to like if you're smart. I have been bumping it and liking it but I agree that Lu got a little overindulgent and over-conceptual. I like mixtape Lu. Gold Watch Lu. Paris Tokyo Lu. Not "too smart for his own good" Lu. Maybe Lupe needs to write novels or something. I don't know if rap is the right medium for what he's trying to accomplish. But he's a great fukking brilliant rapper when hes in his zone.

well he obviously isnt for everybody

It's cool man, it isn't that deep at all lol. Like I said I don't mind anybody liking the album even if I don't, but I don't think people should be DISSED when they didn't like the album lol. I haven't really put any energy at all in persuading people to agree to my opinion, I actually originally came in to a thread, said my opinion and was verbally attacked by people because I didn't like it lol, patronised and dissed and more lol (which I don't even mind). I was just posting my opinion, if there's a thread there I might post in it, I haven't done a Lupe search and replied in every thread dissing him or nothing like that lol. It's not really energy to post anything, it's just quick messages (even if it appears long as I type extremely fast). I don't need anybody to agree with my opinion, it's just solely my opinion, I like to listen to everything I can then give an honest assessment after that, I don't think it can just solely be praise, I think people have a right to critique too, or it would be pretty boring, with no debates just everyone agreeing with eachother. So if people genuinely disagree then it's all good, there's not really a need to be upset about it, or even restrict that conversation, if people talk with respect to eachother and can debate shyt civilly it's better but often people cross the line of respect and turn it into something else, I can do that too, but I much prefer to debate something civilly as it's more productive and interesting and there's no need to be disrespectful to anybody personally when discussing music honestly. It wasn't necessarily a case of lines being unexplainable, I understood most of the album, bar certain references for instance video games as I don't really play much video games but I checked that on the lyrics sites etc so understood it. It was the effectiveness of the lyrics/references/lines etc that were the issue. I've broke it down numerous times my opinions on the album, and the logic/reasoning behind my opinions, but still I don't mind if people like it, people shouldn't be so mad I don't, it's just my feelings/opinions. 1 which I can't change or fake. I've said I've got every Lupe album and even the mixtapes and will still check for his next project, if I like it I like it if I don't I don't, will say either way.

I don't really care about Lupe in either direction, love or hate. His music doesn't do a lot for me, and I tend to forget he exists until I'm reminded by one of his pseudo-intellectual outbursts about a societal issue, one of the numerous threads about his puerile trolling on twitter, or his fervent stans declaring him the greatest, smartest, most lyrically complex rapper in history.

But I took notice when this new album came out, because I hadn't seen such over-the-top, ludicrous reactions from a stanbase to a rap album's transcendent brilliance since the Killah Priest album, where people were levitating and unlocking ancient philosophical secrets mid-thread.

So I downloaded the album, listened to it 7 times (the first 3 so I could genuinely develop an opinion on how good the album was; the final 4 because two things about the album were truly enjoyable for me - the production and the laugh-out-loud goofiness of some of the self-indulgent, faux-deep lyrics), and decided to make a post in the official thread that was so absurd and nonsensical that it was meant to serve as a parody of just how ridiculous the stan reviews of the album were... but people actually dapped it. Because the stanbase has gone so cultishly overboard with this fukking album, that my parody post seemed par for the course, really. Never mind the stupid ass Matryoshka Doll analogy I made up on the spot; the cliche references I make to ancient, dead languages and symbols; nor the bold and baseless claim I make about Lupe inventing the quintuple entendre and boiling complex philosophical and mathematical concepts down to their essence in a simple rhyming couplet. What really blew my mind is I cited some of the worst lyrics on the album as examples of Lupe's genius, and no one batted an eye. Truly, if any other rapper had the gall to spit "such is life: odd as egg mcmuffins at night" cats would mock him endlessly. "Slippin like permission?" "Trippin like field?" This is complex lyricism? Sounds like filler in a battle rap round that would elicit groans from the audience.

Here's the post:
I can't stop playing it, man. It's like Nas, Canibus, Twista, and Mos Def merged into one man. there's nothing Lupe can't do with words. Modern day heiroglyphics and sanskrit combined. :wow:

The album is like a musical matryoshka doll:

Semenov_Traditional_Nesting_Doll_2.jpg

From Wikipedia: also known as Russian nesting doll, refers to a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. The first Russian nested doll set was carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin from a design by Sergey Malyutin, who was a folk crafts painter at Abramtsevo. Traditionally the outer layer is a woman, dressed in a sarafan, a long and shapeless traditional Russian peasant jumper dress. The figures inside may be of either gender; the smallest, innermost doll is typically a baby turned from a single piece of wood. Much of the artistry is in the painting of each doll, which can be very elaborate. The dolls often follow a theme; the themes vary, from fairy tale characters to Soviet leaders.

When you play the album backward, you get the analogy perfectly: each song is a complete statement by itself, but as you continue to play the songs it becomes clear they each fit inside the next, building to a bigger magnificent whole. The other similarities are clear: the artistic intricacy; the layers, the complex representations of gender ("Little Death"), each doll following a theme...

When you play the album forward it's as if Lupe tranformed the rap game into a video game of his own song, and on the final song he beats the entire game... Proceed to the next level, indeed. :damn:

This is the first album I've heard that has quintuple entendres... there are complicated mathematical and linguistic theories boiled down to their essence in couplets... I honestly think someone could write a 250 page book of critical essays on the themes and theories explored on these songs. shyt is just :mindblown:

"Such is life: odd as Egg McMuffins at night..." :ohlawd: Lupe manages to connect inflexible moral codes of love and marriage to the absurdity of time-specific divisions of meals, and the hypocrisy of puritannical values as well as fast food industry practices. "is it slippin' like permission? Am I trippin' like field." Lupe had me feeling like a child again, connecting his confusion over love, religion, and politics to those childhood recollections of school that wash over us like a fever-dream.
:blessed:

I mean, how the fukk could anyone take that post seriously?

And then there's the unlistenable self-indulgence of Mural:

"And not rain like, rain man or like rain dance
Or rain like a slight chance of rain when it's raining
Or rein like deer slaves to Santa Claus sleigh man
But reign like Queens that reign over made man
And not Queen like Queen killer
Rhapsody bohemian Queen
But Queen like white glove wave hand
And not wave hand like it's a heat wave
So you make a fan by waving your hand
I'm talking wave like you saying "hey"
Man, and not hay for horses..."

:snooze:

Production on this joint is dope though. And I'm happy his stans got an album without embarrassing reinterpretations of Modest Mouse choruses. I won't be keeping this rambling bullshyt in rotation at all.

:manny:
:wow:

How did I ever miss this gem of a post. GOAT.
