A dollar might not buy what it used to, but $50 million can still set up a grandiose new high school football stadium in the Lone Star State.

The latest megabucks football development in Texas is again in the Dallas area, with McKinney ISD school board set to vote on a brand new, 12,000-seat football and events facility for the high school. According to Frisco’s Community Impact Newspaper, the stadium would cost $50.3 million -- roughly one-fourth of the $220 million in potential bond items put forth at a March 1 McKinney ISD board meeting.

The showstopper of the proposal is the stadium, of course. You can see renderings of the proposed stadium above.

The capacity of McKinney’s new stadium will not reach the 18,000 who can fit into Allen’s Eagle Stadium. Katy ISD has proposed a similar 12,000 seat facilitywhich is expected to cost approximately $58 million, although some estimates have the cost are closer to $61 million.

While the McKinney board’s approval is the next step toward the bond’s successful implementation, there are still steps to run before spades hit the ground; if the board approves the current bond package on the table — which could come at a March 17 meeting — it will still have to be approved in a May 7 bond election.

If it is, McKinney will join the biggest of the big boys in Texas high school football programs.

There are some crazy grants out there. There are some tiny schools in California that somehow built multi million dollar facilities even for the negative money sports like soccer and track. Its :mindblown:
