Homie is basically saying it’s their fault for not being prepared when actually it’s the governments fault for not being prepared.

Fair enough. I didn't view the situation like this.

The state of Texas was given recommended action plans to put in place 10 years ago the last time this happened so that it wouldn’t happen again.......They did not.

Then I have nothing to rebut. The mayor was an ass.

We're talking about natural disasters. It is not perfectly reasonable to expect heat and power during a natural disaster. We can certainly hope for it. But it's, in fact, the opposite. We should expect heat and power to go out during such an event. That's how you prepare and make contingency plans.
You don’t understand what’s happening in Texas then. This isn’t just about natural disasters. There’s a reason they are having trouble providing power to their citizens while the other states going through similar storms can.

Weird.

I'm in PA. Never experienced blackouts here with snow and cold weather.

It's almost like Texas is inefficient with managing their power during inclement weather.

But how often do they get weather like this?
I'm in Chicago so that ain't shyt.
We got more snow last night alone then what they got in total.

I think a comparable situation is if we got a hurricane. The city would not be prepared no matter how much they tried, and I wouldn't even rely on it because they don't have experience with dealing with situations like it.

This particular power outage seems more self-inflicted. Why aren't other states who routinely see this kind of frigid weather. Not having rolling blackouts for millions of people?

Texas government and/or utilities fukked this up due to incompetence. When I worked for a Utility they had all kinds of exercises and planning for scenarios like this. It doesn't seem like in Texas they had any plan at all.

Plus you can find videos on YouTube as far back as 7 years ago. Showing the Texas Grid not being able to keep up with demand. I'm pretty sure somebody forecasted an event like this but they just refused to do anything about it because of cost.

That's true. But y'all don't have backup generators in case something happen?

I think the whole point I'm saying is, disasters can happen, you have to have a survival plan in place. You can't depend on someone else for your survival or you gone be assed out.

The message was not off base, the timing was.
It was 100% off base. He’s a official who’s job is to governing in a society that pays taxes and has entered into a social contract just for this very reason:dwillhuh:

we left homesteads and moved into communities for a reason. The government is the protection.

You really want folks in a modern society out here really having to MacGyver shyt for heat and water:mjlol:

:dwillhuh::picard: The complete disrespect and zero regard for the citizens in his city. I thought this was a parody until I saw it on twitter. And he really thought this was okay to say to the citzens when some of them spent the night in their cars to keep warm.

Elected officials have to be solution-oriented, that's their basic mandate and this idiot really told his constituents to hold your own nuts. :mjlol:

Also, they knew this storm was coming for at least three weeks.

All I'm saying in general is that we should anticipate disasters and have a survival plan in place.

When disasters happen, no matter whose responsible, there are two types of people, those who sink and those who swim.

I get it. Nobody wants to hear that right now and I agree.
But this isnt how society works. When we are invaded, our elected officials dont say "figure it out yourselves"
When someone goes on a killing spree, the government doesnt wait until things resolve themselves.

A back up plan is a great idea but for most Humans that take part in civilization, society is the back up plan. Its kind of we started civilizing on the first place. Expecting your society to fail you isnt normal behavior. Especially if you've done nothing wrong and played your part.

But this elected official just did the natural disaster equivalent of that?

Answer me this question: the government and electric company comes out and says that it is completely their fault and that they were not prepared to handle this situation, but at this current moment, they do not have the capability to restore power, however, they are working on it.

What you finna do?
