If it's a job you really want, why give the competition a way to stand out over you? Of course send the letter. And there are ways to make it sound genuine and not desperate, it doesn't have be a fukking novel

the nikkas in here saying no must work in sanitation or something, a thank you letter is a must for corporate life. just for example, for the current job I have now, on my 3rd interview I was making small talk with the HR jawn before I met with management again and she was telling me how they whittled down the candidates and she said there was someone my eventual boss really liked but she didn't send a thank you note. They immediately tossed her in the bushes because they interpreted that as her not having any interest in the position.
:what:

I guess getting a secretary gig is harder than I thought.

Why leave something to chance when you don't have to? Maybe that manager likes thank you letters, maybe they're indifferent, but it will never hurt to send it. It can only hurt not to send it.
Um... it can hurt you to send a fvcking thank you letter. Nobody that I know that hires people respects that bullsh!t. Then again, I really don't deal with people that hire a lot of administrative assistants.

If you're sending thank you letters to get the job you're probably applying to the wrong gig or not a very good one. Not only that, but the more you gotta change yourself to get hired the sooner that gig is going to end.

Dude cut me a break with the holier than thou bullshyt. I know it makes you feel superior to put down everyone on The Coli as being secretaries or whatever because it makes you feel accomplished. But I'm talking about management level shyt - how can it hurt to tell someone you appreciate their time? Of course there are ways to look like a douchebag, but there are also ways to look appreciative and interested in the job without looking desperate, it's all in how you word it. If those people don't "respect" that then ok - but they should at least respect the fact that the candidate wants the job and isn't gonna let someone else take their shine. If not , they're not very smart

Getting a hiring manager golf passes, tickets to the game, massages, boat trips, alcohol, etc... that's way better than a fvcking desperate ass thank you note. If you're going to butter people up at least give them something worthwhile to go with all that insecurity you're shoving in their face. You never watched Wall Street? People like gifts, not fancy stationary.

Yeah no shyt but the thread didn't ask "should I buy tickets to the game or write a thank you note?" Obviously that's some white collar shyt that already established folk switching careers would do if they're comfortable with that person, and would obviously have a greater impact. What an obvious thing to say. But you don't think "gifts" come across as trying to get a job any more than a fukking note? And you think everyone trying to get a job has the means to do some shyt like that? There's a reason why a lot of people are trying to get jobs - not everyone has the luxury to be able to afford buying expensive gifts for hiring managers, most people need jobs because, well, they need jobs. Your little preppy white collar act is annoying as fukk. You're like 24 with an undergrad degree, you're not elite. I know you come to SOHH to live out those fantasies because you see yourself as better than the losers on here so it makes you feel "elite" but god damn you're not

You're literally seething with insecurity fueled rage. I can feel you angrily banging away at your keyboard, spewing your venom. I'll tell you what, I'm not "elite" by any stretch. That's very funny to me. Your bitter feelings make me laugh.

That's probably the first time I've used the word on this forum. If you feel like I'm talking down to you then that's all on you. I'm just some guy, dude.

I'm telling you, it's way easier to sell yourself at the interview than it is after the fact with some damn thank you note. You have no idea how someone is going to interpret your thank you letter nonsense. Most people I deal with would crumple one up and keep it moving. If you're going to go ahead with that bribery bullsh!t then a $20 bottle of wine goes way further than some handwitten schlop. Might as well get em a macaroni and paste necktie while you're at it.

No actually I'm beyond thrilled with the position I'm at in my career, thank you notes and all

But the thread isn't asking for some cheesy "better" way to get noticed after an interview. It's a yes/no thank you note or not? And if you're letting someone else get a step ahead of you when you want the job, that's a problem. Red herrings ain't really my bag so if you wanna make a thread about buying people gifts, be my guest, but this one asked about thank you notes.

As someone who works in HR/recruiting, absolutely yes (assuming it's something halfway decent, not fast food or garbage collecting)

A very brief, quick email thanking them for their time and reaffirming your interest in the position is always a good idea.

This.

As someone who has actually HIRED people and staffed law offices, a follow-up thank you letter is not only customary, it shows that you're prudent in your approach.

:russ: and yet :smh: at you cats talmbout "it's lame"....y'all nikkas gon' forever be flippin' burgers out this hoe. :noah:

Thank you notes are for chumps. Don't do it.

If they want you, they will call you or just send you an offer on the spot.

If not, a damn thank you note won't make the difference.
