I'd give maybe 2008-2012 when mixtapes really sounded like albums with great visuals that had people thinking they were industry plants

that was actually the END of the mixtape era. You weren't there for the real one, just the industry version.
Mixtape era: 1997-2005.
fukk is a 2009? Datpiff mix cd era? Mp3tape era, nikka? You couldn't grab that bullshyt from Sammy's Fashions on Fordham and Jerome, nikka.
:camby:

Don't forget Harlem Music Hut which had the Ill azz Ron G and S&S mixtapes

Or Beat Street out on Fulton in Brooklyn which had the Mr. Cee joints and Funk Flex volumes

Also Hot Waxx out in Far Rockaway had them Clue tapes and Grandmaster Vic mixes

Can't forget Tape Kingz at the Albee square mall ran by the Russian kid Iain who would sell u tape recordings of radio shows u might have missed on the weekend like Stretch Armstrong ...Pirate Radio with K-def and Pete Rock and the Awesome two joints...

I was buying them tapes like crack...
:noah:

Those mid 00's tapes are cool but not messing with late 00's honestly

Dudes really in here acting like those lo-fi quality joints were better than the stuff that came out later.

It's a case of nostalgia. You see these dudes posting all this new york sh*t about where they bought mixtapes from...yada yada. It was better to them bc everyone wasnt up on it like it later came to be
