That Roddy Ricch flop and fall off is wild when you think about it.

If you talking about that The Box nikka he was never on to begin with. When an artist has a captivating single but they're not interesting and dont got other hits its a wrap. Word to Nardo Wick lil nikka not gonna be around next year.

Roddy had a captivating first album. The shyt was really good and had multiple hits. The problem is, it's hard to redo what you did when you started out so hot.

This is a pretty funny thread coming from a white girl like yourself that normally actively shyts on veteran rappers while hyping up far inferior preteen or preteen-sounding rappers.

There is no real fan loyalty. An artist releases an album and it's forgotten about within a week. Everything is disposable...
False. Streaming clearly shows many albums have legs nowadays.

Well I can’t quote anything right now, but for those questioning the take on him never really being on, it’s not a far fetched take. The Box was a big song, but I’ve never met a Roddy Rich fan. In the streaming era having a big streaming song also propels your album into success even if no one is listening. This is why labels add the big songs onto the end of an album. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Nothing really stands out about dude, he just caught one. I’ve never rode by anyone playing a random album cut.

Sorry, but this cotto salami. Dude had multiple hits. As an old head, even I know that. Really is interesting how this board always claim they never heard of mainstream artist. Nikkas only listen to they playist and same artists from 20 years ago?

Most people have their core group of artists they rock with and that’s it. They might like individual songs of certain new artists but become a fan of them?

It’s all about how much the label wants to invest in you.
Not really. Hits are hits, especially in an era where the right song can go crazy on TikTok or twitter.

Roddy tried to do a bunch of things and it didn't really work. Part of that is because the album wasn't great, and part of it is simply that most mainstream black artists are put in a very specific box (no pun intended) and any attempt to get out is clowned or not understood. There's a track on his album - Moved To Miami - with a drum and bass intro. I remember people on the Coli and twitter clowning that shyt, wondering wtf it is, just straight up laughing at him for...briefly dabbling in a genre/wave they've never heard. How do you evolve with listeners like that.

Same thing happened to Bryson Tiller. Same thing happened to Solange.
