In his defense, I'm sure that his methods completely rely on the element of surprise. Last thing a dude with a gun expects is for you to try to grab the gun.
Of course a dude that's expecting it is gonna pull the trigger on you several times and move the gun away from your hands if he knows your hands are coming.

If it was a demonstration yes…You right. That’s the only reason it didn’t work this time.
First of all, it’s self-defense. 9/10, no highly trained person with a gun is going to rob anyone especially not at arms reach.
So basically he’s demonstrating bullshyt that may or may not work in a street setting against untrained jack boys who hold the gun sideways and shyt. And, as it is with all demonstrations, they don’t all work in real life settings.
But kid clearly had an agenda and volunteered (while recording) just for this purpose. Not surprising he supposedly does MMA because a lot of them nikkas are tryhards
