Biden's public option was seen as the anti-Medicare for all, more moderate lane.Why make it a part of your campaign platform then? Was he assuming the Dems would win both sides of Congress? It is very common for candidates to become President and not go after all the items on their campaign list.
I don't think a Public Option will pass Congress unless Democrats have more Progressive Senators. They would do it through budget reconciliation which would mean only 50 Senate votes instead of 60 to pass legislation, but Sinema and Manchin would have likely voted against it. There may be a view other moderates out there not on board either.
