Closest you’ll get to that is Black/Zamasu vs Goku, Trunks, & Vegeta.

Having a bunch of villains strong enough to compete with the z fighters at the same time goes against DBZ’s core. Only time you really see that is with the Cell Jrs

I dont think there is one. At best, you can say the best of a type of anime. Theres too many for me to choose. I think DBZ is the best of the type of anime it is, best classic action shonen. If I had to choose a single best all around it would probably be Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I think that is the best anime of all time but it isnt my favorite.

One Piece is the GOAT and it’s not really close IMO

Yu Yu is great also and Yusuke is my personal favorite protagonist in the genre

The Android/Cell arc felt like the last time where characters not named Goku or Vegeta actually mattered.
Like when Tien put it all on the line holding Cell back.
I always liked Krillin so seeing him go up against a main villain without immediately getting killed was always dope to me
(Too bad it was anime filler though... I suppose there's always the Saiyan/Frieza arcs )



Piccolo versus Android 17 has to be the most underrated classic DBZ fight

Goku was a hoe ass nikka for not running the fade. I never let Goku-stans slide on that. He literally ran way from Cell. No amount of Gohan packing Cell up in the end will remove that stain on Goku's Gi. Say what you want about Vegeta and his Ls, he never ran away from a canon fight (Broly wasnt canon). he knew he was weaker than Frieza but he still ran up on him. Goku a front runner.

Goku wasn't nearly strong enough to go against any of the Androids, much less Semi-Perfect Cell at that point. Before the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku was food and Even the fused Piccolo/Kami wasn't much of anything. He had to reach ascended SSJ/ Mastered SSJ before he could do any major damage towards them.

The Android Saga was worth it because it delivered on the promise of Gohan being the "chosen one", which was something foreshadowed as early as the Raditz fight in the first few DBZ episodes. Dr. Gero finally killing Goku through Cell is pretty dope from a storytelling perspective. Cell Games also has some of the best animation in the whole DB saga. It should have just ended after Cell Games tho
