And Yadi is batting 20 points better than McCutch, while excelling defensively. He's in the conversation.

Molina should absolutely be in the discussion.

But him hitting 20 points higher is a terrible argument.

It's just my rebuttal to him "only" having that over McCutch. Like ... okay, but it's much higher. And definitely not the only thing.

It's just not very important on either side of the discussion. And if you compare them offensively, Molina is going to get crushed.

I thought Molina should've been the MVP last season, and he's definitely in the discussion this season.

I believe that while advanced defensive metrics continue to get better and are generally reliable, we're still an eternity away from properly valuing catcher defense.

McCutchen is an excellent defender, but Molina is probably the best catcher in the world. Personally, I think defensive WAR/runs saved/UZR/etc all undervalue the impact a great defensive catchers has on the game.

That said, Cutch is incredible. If I were voting TODAY, I'd vote McCutchen, Molina, Goldschmidt, Wright, Gomez....in that order :yeshrug:

Goldschmidt>>>>>>McCutchen. I'll be damn if you give someone The MVP when they were 100x better last year.

Yeah man, that is just fukking sickening news. I wanna throw up. Our best player is gone until the playoffs start most likely. Now we'll have to suffer with Simmons leading off again. fukk the New York Mets and their pathetic ass franchise.

He isn't an excellent defender though. He has a weak arm (this is well known), and his fielding % is lower than last year. But ... I will say his speed allows him to get to many more balls. And he does look better than he did last year, when statistically he was pretty poor defensively.

I think he's at worst an average defender. And bruh, fielding percentage? :snoop:

:what: How does what they did last year matter to what they're doing this year? It's a 1-year award based on his value in relation to the rest of the league THIS year. Last year, there were several players more valuable imo. This season you can't convince me anyone has been better.
