As the NFL coaching carrousel spins into high gear over the next couple of weeks, Head Coach John Harbaugh does not have current plans to make any changes to his staff.

“I don’t want to sit here and say we’re never going to do anything, or we’re going to do something, but I don’t plan on doing anything right now,” Harbaugh said during his season-ending press conference Tuesday.

Harbaugh stood by his assistant coaches, specifically Run Game Coordinator Juan Castillo, who has come under scrutiny for the team’s struggles to run the ball. The Ravens finished the season ranked 30th in the NFL by averaging 83 rushing yards per game. They also finished last in the NFL averaging 3.1 yards per carry average.

“Juan Castillo is a very accountable guy,” Harbaugh said. “Juan Castillo will be the first guy to say, ‘Put it all on his shoulders.’ There’s probably a lot of people out there willing to do that. I say, ‘Put it all on my shoulders,’ and people are more than happy to say, ‘Fine you got it. It’s all your fault.’

“I know better than [to blame one person] being in those meetings every single day and being part of it every single day. I know better and every one of our players and every one of our coaches knows that there are a lot of things that go into that.”

Castillo, a long-time offensive line coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, was hired at the end of the 2012 season to work primarily with the offensive line. He brought some different blocking schemes with him to Baltimore that were expected to help the running game, but the unit struggled throughout the season.

“I’ve got complete confidence and belief in all of our coaches,” Harbaugh said. “I believe in our coaches. That goes for Juan Castillo, and that goes for all of our guys. I think he’s a great coach, and I think all of our guys are great coaches. But we have to coach better. We have to find a way to use our personnel better. We have to get better. All of those things have to happen.”

While Harbaugh indicated that he does not have plans to replace any of his current assistants, he did leave the door open for some of them to get other jobs around the league. Six teams have already fired their head coaches, meaning new head coaches will have to assemble their staffs over the next few weeks.

“I’m sure that some of our coaches will be part of that, as far as opportunities to move up and move on and pursue career opportunities,” Harbaugh said. “We’re proud of that. We’ve had a lot of success here and the fact that we’re not pushing deep into the playoffs will probably give some of our coaches

I seriously can't stand this dude Harbaugh :snoop:

One of the most pathetic offense schemes I've seen and this nikka is still gonna ride with the same coaches

Caldwell To Interview For Lions Head Coaching Job

John Harbaugh said yesterday he anticipated some of his assistants would have an opportunity to pursue coaching promotions with other teams.

The first person set to do so is Ravens Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell.

Caldwell is expected to interview for the Detroit Lions’ head coaching vacancy, according to several outlets, including the Detroit Free Press.

The interview is expected to take place today or tomorrow, per Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, an influential group that promotes diversity and job equality in the NFL, said he also expects former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith to interview for the opening in Detroit.

“We were extremely disappointed last year when Jim didn't get a single interview, especially after reaching the mountaintop with the Ravens and winning the Super Bowl," Wooten told Wilson. "Jim did such a great job with Joe Flacco and him being a Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. Jim had a great experience with the Colts. We feel very strongly that he will be a great candidate for the Lions."

The Lions are looking for a candidate who can help their young, talented quarterback Matthew Stafford take his game to the next level.

After coaching quarterback Peyton Manning for a decade, and aiding Flacco in his Super Bowl MVP run, Caldwell could be a prime candidate in Detroit. Caldwell has won two Super Bowls as an assistant coach with the Indianapolis Colts and Ravens, and he reached another as the head coach of the Colts.

"Jim can do great things for Stafford," said Wooten. "He can bring some discipline to Detroit that they definitely need."

The Lions fired Jim Schwartz as their head coach Monday, one day after they ended a surprising late-season slide. After starting 6-3, the Lions finished their season at 7-9.

In addition to Caldwell and Smith, another candidate to fill the vacancy is San Diego Chargers Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, according to ESPN. Seattle Seahawks assistant coach Tom Cable was also rumored to be in the running, but CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora said he is not actually a candidate.

“The Lions need a coach who can take Stafford and turn him from what he is now (a talented but error-prone passer) into a franchise quarterback,” wrote ProFootballTalk.com’s Michael David Smith.

“The Lions would love to find a coach who can make Stafford look like Manning. The question about Caldwell as a potential coach of the Lions is whether Manning became the quarterback he is because of Caldwell’s coaching, or whether Caldwell was just lucky enough to get hired by a team that had Peyton Manning.”

This could actually be good for the Lions too. Caldwell is good as qb coach and might be able to get through to Stafford. As long as he brings in good coordinators and assistants this could be a win-win.
Hopefully he takes his entire offensive staff with him if he gets the job :lawd:

Some notes from the State of the Ravens presser yesterday with Bisciotti,Ozzie, and Harbs:

Ozzie Newsome says not interested in restructuring. Says team will "look into extensions"

Ozzie Newsome said team needs a free safety that can make game-changing plays

John Harbaugh said he expects Arthur Brown to compete for starting job at inside linebacker next season

John Harbaugh: 'Marlon [Brown] will compete for a starting job' says he can improve catch radius

Ozzie Newsome said team isn't afraid to let a good player go, referencing Anquan Boldin decision from last year

Steve Bisciotti on coaching staff: 'I never demand, I do suggest. Right now, I haven't suggested to John that he revamp his coaching staff.'

Ozzie Newsome on Dennis Pitta: 'We'd like to have him. There are no guarantees'

Many scenarios where Terrell Suggs can return. Just depends on both sides' willingness to reach common ground. Message was delivered today

Ozzie Newsome on free agency: 'We will be active.'

Ozzie Newsome: 'We're not restructuring contacts'

Ozzie Newsome praised receivers coach Jim Hostler. His future with the Ravens looks bright

John Harbaugh on Juan Castillo: 'Our plan right now is to improve.' Title going forward will be 'offensive line coach' next year

John Harbaugh: 'Juan will be the offensive line coach next year. The rest of it is in a little bit of flux'

Ozzie Newsome said team knows what it's looking for at WR, has identified type of player they're looking for, confident they'll get one

Ozzie Newsome said free agency, draft or trade will all be explored

Andy Moeller remains on the staff at this time, safe to say he'll be looking around and keeping his options open

Also found out Jim Caldwell is not currently under contract with the team :leon:

So we don't even have to fire that nikka, just don't resign him :whew:

I'm guessing since they want bigger interior lineman that means Gino will be replaced and KO might go back to RT

Gotta be more than coincidence that he's in town the day we start our OC search, right? Right? :sadcam:

I'd take him. After all these years of dang Air Coryell, I'd like to see this unit in a true WCO scheme.

Basically though, I'd take almost anyone that's not in-house...no Hostler, Castillo, etc. We need a fresh philosophy on O.
