Theoretically they shouldn't be. As good of a 1-2 punch in rotation as anyone in the AL. They need to shore up bullpen (who doesnt tho?), need a stable force at catcher, and need to sign a dynamic CF. Need Rodon to be good
They are just desperately missing one difference making bat. Melky and Fraizer are cool auxiliary pieces, and Eaton and Anderson have proven to be a good 1-2 punch top of order, but Abreu needs a solid bat next to him in the lineup
They need to spend a significant amount on a star OF. Should have pushed for Cespedes
Because the Pirates need to blow it up. It's not happening with their current core, especially with the Cubs in their division.I also heard Mccutchen will be available but that makes no sense to me. Why would the pirates do that?

How bout signing Bautista or Encarcion?
Also Braun Cargo or Votto could be available via trade
It's over. Their lineup isn't scaring anybody. That's why they always flame out in the playoffs or Wild Card when they do get in. They need a couple mashers and they aren't going to spend on one. Their rotation is weak too. Taillon looks solid and there's a lot of hype around Glasnow, but the rest is pretty meh, Cole included.Huh? They have a young team that won 90 games a few years in A row but got beat in the wildcard game by a few great pitchers
This isn't the NBA. wildcard team can easily win a title and have. The pirates blowing it up makes zero sense

The Cubs are miles ahead of them and have a ton of youth already. Pittsburgh should tear down and rebuild. I'd keep Polanco and maybe Marte (though he'd probably have a ton of value on the block) and trade everyone else in the lineup. Cole would be on the block too.
Enjoy that L tonight tho![]()
Their team defense and bullpen is not as good as KC's nor do they have the same mental toughness. KC got ravaged by injuries this season and still finished .500.Wildcard games are total crapshoots. If you make the MLB playoffs any team can win it all if they get hot
Pirates are built on speed just like the royals when they win . They also gave a great farm system so they can add impact players
A good team with their best players not even in their primes yet you don't blow that up
They'll be back in the playoffs next yer

Unless Pittsburgh has a couple mashers in the pipeline, it'll be more of the same.
How are they gonna match up with the Cubs moving forward? How bout the Nationals, Dodgers, Mets or Giants?
Breh, quality pitching dominates that lineup. It's been proven time and again. Their starters were mostly cheeks this year, especially by NL standards.Their starting pitching is much better then the royals.
As far as how they match up as I said playoffs are a crapshoot
This isn't the NBA where the 8 seed has zero shot to win a title

They cannot matchup with Bumgarner, Cueto, Moore and Shark; Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta and Lackey; Scherzer, Strasburg and Roark; Thor, deGrom, Matz and Harvey. Pittsburgh does not have those types of arms at the moment and almost all of those guys can shut down Pitt's lineup.
That team also had Albert Pujols, Chris Carpenter and Wainwright closing. You just need timely hitting in the playoffs. The Giants have proven that winning with some weak lineups
Cardinals won a title finishing 3 games over 500 in baseball just get into the playoffs and anything can happen

The Pirates are one thing me and @god shamgod can agree on. If you still believe in them, cool. We'll just agree to disagree.![]()
