The cubs have owned the pirates the last 2 seasons but I don't think they should blow it up they have a talented core they just don't have the resources to add to it

Nobody in the nl central does besides the cardinals that's why the cubs are poised to dominate this division for the foreseeable future(at least til 2021)
But that's my point. They're not gonna be able to match the Cubs with what they have. The difference in talent in staggering. Why hold onto everyone in the hopes they can make the Wild Card and get bounced right away? Blow that shyt up and hope to be good again in 3-4 years with a new core. If they draft/trade smart, it can work (Astros, Cubs, Mets, Royals).

Oh you're setting yourself up for disappointment with that line of thinking. :banderas:
You could've said the same about the '06 Mets, '08 Rays, or the '12 Nats. Baseball doesn't work like that, sans a few outliers(90s Yankees, 90s Braves), you likely won't see a team win the division year in and year out and compete for chips.

Small market teams just cant afford bad seasons. As long as they are winning, management is willing to spend a little extra and let the core build but once there is a bit of a swoon, they pick one or two guys and slowly get rid of the core. The Pirates window is closed. You arent gonna succeed long term with guys like John Jaso and David Freese a major part of the top of your order. Everyone knows moneyball tactics so hoping shytty pitchers bounce back on one year deals and aging OBP and defensive guys have career years isn't gonna work for very long.

I think the Pirates should hang on to Cutch though. Nothing worse than a small market team trading a star for 50 cents on the dollar because of a down year. I'd give him at least the first half of next year to see if it was a down year and trade him at the deadline if they arent competing. I refuse to believe Cutch fell off that bad in one year. Hopefully he was playing through injury :mjcry:

Or they can give him a Joe Mauer deal and be stuck in purgatory for the next eight years. :wow:

I'd take him on the Tigers if Avila could get a nice haul for JD the gawd first. :lupe:

Cardinals have won the central 7 of the last 12 years, dodgers have won the nl west 4 years in a row.You say outliers like the yankees and braves when the cubs are built just like them they have a core of talent that is young and will grow together.Look at kris bryant and addison russells production in their 2nd year .The cubs won 103 games without arguably their best hitter :rawse: your shtick is laughable the pipeline keeps creating more talent (willson contreras, eloy jimenez, ian happ, trevor clifton etc) big market, great ownership, great fo,great manager it's about to get ugly :goatcry:

Pirates got young talent they don't need to blow it up they sucked for years and drafted good similar to the royals.Taillon and glasgow as pitchers, polanco, marte, harrison, josh bell they got austin meadows, newman, hayes in the minors.I disagree they need to get some more resources to stay competitive and invest wisely. The Pirates will be competitive they have a nice core blow it up and do what :pachaha: they got plenty of talent the cubs just have more

You're a Cubs fan. I understand why you'd want them to stay the course. :manny:
