Dominant relievers are never worth big time positional prospects.

Relievers as a rule are overrated.
To the Cubs, giving up Gleyber was worth it only in the sense that they knew there was a real chance to win the WS after 100 years and Chapman was about as automatic as it gets. There was a historic backdrop to what they were trying to achieve.

But 99.99% of relievers aren't worth the trade. Not for guys like Frazier and Torres.

40 years ago when relievers consistently went out and pitched 2-3 innings like Gossage did...relievers had much more value. But even a shytty pitcher is going to hold a lead for the 1 batter or 1 inning he's called on in any given night.

To this point, the team has stood on that notable piece of leverage, continuing to ask for “two very top prospects” in its conversations with interested rivals. The South Siders have pressed the Astros for Francis Martes and Kyle Tucker, while asking the Yankees to headline a deal with either Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier.

:mjlol: this is exactly why I want no parts of quintana, white sox acting like he's syndergaard

I agree to a point. But I think it depends on the situation

Like u said with the Cubs it was worth it

The Nationals can't win a title with that bullpen. If they had to give up Robles for a reliever I couldn't fault them
