Barring a “miracle,” Justin Verlander will remain with the Tigers through this Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline, sources tell Jon Heyman of FanRag. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the chief sticking point is Verlander’s contract, which pays him $28MM a season through 2019. Potential trade partners “want no part” of that contract, Heyman writes.

:praise: thank you god.Every time I saw the cubs and verlander in the same snetence I was :goatcry:

Save that dough for yu darvish this winter then still have enough dough for bryce harper winter '18 :cubsumad:

:dahell: Bryce Harper? Heyward opting out? :heh:

Cuz the cubs are the tampa bay rays and can't afford multiple big contracts right? Are chapman, ellsbury & tanaka opting out? :jbhmm:

cuz that's 60+ mil in 3 players who don't play everyday and are on the decline.Worry about your team,I wasn't serious cubs have too position players already.

If Tanaka keeps pitching like he did last night, one can only hope :blessed:

The Yankees are going cheap in a lot of positions though. Judge, Frazier, Torres (thank you :obama:) Gregorius, Bird, Sanchez will all be regulars on the cheap Severino and Montgomery on the cheap in the rotation. A-Rod, CC off the books this summer, Headley next summer. Ellsbury's the one useless contract on the team.

I don't think we're getting Harper either, but the Yankees aren't gonna have an obscene amount of money on their books

Besides lester and heyward neither will the cubs.Cubs had a stacked team(which is the point) torres was expendable cubs won the world series :manny:

Yankees haven't won a playoff series since 2012 & missed the playoffs 3 out the last 4 years you needed prospects more than the cubs did :salute:

Even though Verlander costs a lot of money, I really think the Dodgers should trade for him and go all in this year. Second straight year Kershaw's had an injury and pitchers are always a ticking time bomb.

Verlander is still throwing 96-97; he can be a great power arm in the NL against those weak lineups. Has a pretty strong postseason track record too besides the WS.

When do we start giving Ned Yost some credit as a manager? He makes bone-headed decisions in-game, but he gets the best out of that team. They have average pitching at best and I wouldn't call their lineup a murderer's row either.

I would be terrified to face them in the postseason.
