I could see it somehow working out if the Diamondbacks, Mets and Reds decide to blow up their rosters in two years tho.

Because there could be some good pieces on the market that might help speed up the Giants development. Because their farm sucks.

They're not really giving up anything to get Stanton. It's a no brainer move. He should help everyone in the lineup and they had a lot of guys with down years in 2017.

If Bumgarner's healthy and Shark has better luck, they'll have a solid top of the rotation, especially if Cueto bounces back.

How many teams can absorb 250 mil?

Fishies are lucky the Giants are desperate
A lot of them. Nobody besides the Dodgers has a crazy payroll. SF is second right now and they're willing to take him on. Why wouldn't the Yanks, Red Sox, Cubs, Nats, Angels, Rangers, Cubs, Indians, Jays, Astros take Stanton if they were only giving up a poo poo platter?

...actually I do see a small window but a lot has to go right.

Cueto can bounce back and every metric I saw tells me that Samardzija was incredibly unlucky last year.

It may take an over the top investment on a guy like Arrieta (or long shot...JD Martinez) but it’s possible the Giants could make noise.

I just don’t know how much money they’re willing to commit to make it happen.

your stars are but dust on my shoes
I think the issue is less about prospects or money and more with Stanton not willing to waive his no trade clause to teams other than LA/SF at this point. Seemed like both the Red Sox and Cards were trying to get him.

Because the Yankee wanna get under the luxury tax.

Had the Yankees already been under to where the penalties wouldn’t be severe he’d be here now but the Yankees wanna slash payroll to reset the penalties.
