^^^made this post in January after we lost to the Bills in the playoffs

it was obvious to me we were weak in the trenches on both sides

DeCosta did nothing to improve either line and here we are

can’t run the ball or protect Lamar because the oline is ass and can’t stop the run or rush the passer because the dline is ass

this is exactly why I so against taking Maliki Starks or a CB in the 1st round

they should’ve drafted Simmons like I said and they should’ve drafted an interior dineman before the 6th round instead bringing back and relying on guys like Brent Urban,John Jenkins, and Brodrick Washington

Lamar will get all the blame but EDC set the team up to fail

even when the guys like Lamar,Kyle,Roquan, and Marlon return from injury they’re still going to struggle against most teams because we are terrible in the trenches

I agree with you on Simmons
....no qualms with 2nd round/Green
A 3rd round defensive lineman would likely still be struggling with this defensive unit, but you're right he should've drafted more before the 6th

they're gonna have to embrace becoming a pass heavy team to have any success this year

Henry not doing shyt behind that terrible line this season

they should play Keaton more

gonna need someone with quickness and speed to run behind this oline

on defense they seriously need to consider signing Christian Wilkins

I dont see any other option in season unless they trade for someone

I'd also consider trading Linderbaum

yall know Ive never been a fan of dude. I have no idea how he keeps making probowls

I'd trade him before the deadline and try to finesse a 2nd or 3rd for him

they gotta stop paying these overrated average players like they're stars

Repped
1)
-The biggest issue with offense is our predictability. Teams have solid indicators when we pass or run, regardless of the situation, time on the clock, spot, down, or distance.
-For that reason alone, Harbaugh should be fired because the solution to our predictability is Keaton Mitchell. He also gaslit us through the media when he said having Keaton active and getting snaps indicates to the defense that we'll give him the ball SMH.
-Being less predictable also helps an average to below-average offensive line.

2)
-Our offensive line is much better at run-blocking than passing. Henry's fumble vs the Lions, in my opinion was caused by poor blocking of Mark Andrews and an exceptional play from Hutchinson.
-Linderbaum has always been overrated to me, but to shoot him some bail he's playing next to 2 bums and often has to help faalele.
-Linderbaum wants to set the market for Centers but doesn't have the physical attributes of an elite Center SMH...I'm all for trading him.
-In my opinion, offensive line coaching is the most important coach from a positional group and we have one of the worst ones SMH
Found this on Twitter...
These are the end-of-year PFF rankings for every Warhop-led OL unit:
2022 Texans - 26 (Jags improved from 24 > 19)
2021 Jaguars - 24
2020 Jaguars - 22
2019 Jaguars - 26 (Bucs improved from 20 > 7)
2018 Buccaneers - 20
2017 Buccaneers - 17
2016 Buccaneers - 23
2015 Buccaneers - 23
2014 Buccaneers - 25 (Browns improved from 12 > 6)
2013 Browns - 12
2012 Browns - 5
2011 Browns - 14
2010 Browns - 16
2009 Browns - 8

3)
Out->
John Harbaugh (Head Coach)
Zach Orr (Defensive Coordinator)
Chris Horton (Special Teams Coordinator)
George Warhop (Offensive Line Coach)

Elevated/Internal Hires->
Interim Head Coach-> Willie Taggart (current Assistant HC and RB coach)
Defensive Coordinator->Chuck Pagano (current Defensive Assistant and secondary coach)
Special Teams Coordinator-> Randy Brown (current ST coach)
Offensive Line Coach-> Travelle Wharton (current Assistant Offensive Line coach)

A bunch of new consultants/coaches still using the current terminology.....1 for ST, 2 to 3 each for offense and defense.

Also a "coordinator of football strategy"

We got a $19.8m Offensive Line blocking for an MVP/HOF QB and HOF RB

How has Andrew Vorhees been? I remember wanting him in the draft because the injury knocked him down so late. Seemed like it would be a good value pick IF he could get healthy.

Replacement level to below-average.

-Can’t execute basic combo blocks, pulls/traps, or second-level climbs
-Movement beats him...constantly late vs stunts and interior blitzes
-Can't move people in the run game...zero vertical movement/push on duo/down, no consistent combo/climb to the second level
-Protection/operational issues...IDs, delay of game, protection busts

Interesting. It's funny how much convo around Detroit fans/media is centered on comparing the teams, specifically GMs. We traded ahead of you guys in the draft specifically because the front office thought you might take Tate Ratledge, and he's been pretty solid for us this year. I saw a post-draft interview vid of DeCosta talking about the Ravens' drafting process and arguing you want as many picks as possible, and trading up is almost never worth it. And that's kind of the debate point here, where our GM trades up a looot in every draft. Then you don't have enough later round picks that can go to whatever your weakness is (for us, CB and d-line depth).

Listening to the All-22 guy for awhile it's interesting hearing how little emphasis has been placed on the o-line in Baltimore. Every good GM gets shyt on for something like that lol. Here, we got dudes saying our GM doesn't care about edge rushers. It's just how the board falls when you go best player available.

It takes 2 to trade. The way you phrased it makes it seem as if Ratledge was a first-round pick, when he was a late 2nd.

I'm confident we would've drafted Ratledge or another offensive or defensive lineman with our second-round pick...I'm cool with Green

EDC criticism is loud right now, and it should be. Last year was a rare opportunity for a team that typically drafts late in the first round to get a blue-chip lineman in Josh Simmons.

For damn near every other draft class EDC strategy of BPA(best player available) works.

When it comes to the trenches our biggest issue is coaching smh
Our defensive linemen seem to be taught not to rush the passer and prioritize stopping the run SMH

On offense, we went from having Joey D until he passed away shortly before the 2024 season to one of the worst in Warhop. Harbaugh should've replaced Warhop with a college offensive line coach in

Stacy Searels coached under Monken in Georgia....Harbaugh confuses me smh

Yea I meant 2nd round. We initially had the 60th pick in that round, you guys were at 59. We then traded up a couple spots to get ahead of you and draft Ratledge. A couple Detroit reporters have said there were heavy rumors that you were going to take Ratledge at 59 if he was still on the board.

The thing that kills me is that we have a similar d-line focus on setting edges and stopping the run instead of getting QBs. But your secondary, when healthy, is built to compliment that. Whereas ours, specifically at CB, isn't. I wish we had simply stayed put in the 2024 draft and took Wiggins instead of trading up for Terrion Arnold. I still think he's gonna be good eventually but man, Wiggins is clearly the better player as of right now. But since we want bigger CBs who tackle we decided not to take a guy who clearly had better coverage skills smh...
