How is Luke not first ballot?!

Short career. I don't think he did enough in such a short career that it's mind-blowing if he's not first ballot.

I felt the same about Pat Willis when he came up and he's my favorite LB.

Sayers is an odd case. The late 60s must've been weak at RB.

Butkus was a Pro Bowler every year but his last and AP1 5 times. I don't know if he's first ballot or not but he deserves to be in.

Megatron could've waited when guys like Wayne and Hólt aren't in.

Sayers was an anamoly. Butkus was a 1st ballot. He was one of the most beloved players in NFL lore. The thing about Sayers/Butkus, is as great as they were, individually, they had no team success. No playoff berths, a 1-13 season(where Butkus actually won DPOY). A part of it is era related(less teams made it), but still...I love Megatron, but I can agree....the Holts, Wayne and maybe even Steve Smith couldve gotten considered first.

Your assesment is an accurate one. Sayers was in that window where Jim Brown had just retired. Jim Taylor was winding down. Dynamic guys like OJ and Mercury Morris had not emerged, yet. I would say Leroy Kelly was his prime competition. Franco got drafted the season after Sayers retired. Dorsett was much later. Duane Thomas was electric(RIP) but he emerged right when Sayers was.done. Didnt last due to contract problems. Chuck Foreman became a star after Gale was done.

Frank Gore and AP are the next two to get in..

Maybe CMC and possibly Derrick Henry if he's got two good years left in him are the only active players I see

Was thinking AP was in already for some reason…Gore is a good call too.

I've said it in multiple threads before, but I wouldn't put Gore in. He had excellent longevity, but you should have to have been dominant to be in the HOF, and he was not. Only one second-team all pro selection and three seasons over 1,200 yards. Outside of maybe one season, there’s not a season anyone could argue he was a top three HB.
