The point is the press is not supposed to biased. Mainstream media also presents black people as savages, especially the local news.

Bias creeps into everything. Matt Taibbi longs for a time that never existed. News has always been reported in a biased way. It just had the veneer of fairness.

Nah I’m not gonna advocate for the promotion of fascism in the mainstream media. You’re probably the type of person that supports people being able to flaunt racist imagery or ideals under the guise of free speech
I suppose the question becomes slightly philosophical. Before the Russian scandal where I admit, the left jumped the shark on some things, would you have said there was liberal bias?
If not, then why do we need to self-flaggellate to present an impression of fairness? The right wing will always claim liberal bias. Liberals will always claim the opposite.

Honestly, no I would not have at all. Look at the scandals of the pre trump republicans. Gingrich and his marriage. Mark Foley. Haggard. Dave Vitter, etc. When I say an unbiased press should matter, by no means am I saying don't call out the republicans. They should be called out, and it should be vigorous. Just don't give them ammo. There is better ways to counter Fang and Cotton than banning them imo.
And this is exactly why Trump will continue to win. We have free speech for a reason. I guess black people who are against gay marriage should be exiled from the public debate too.

I don’t support hate speech. Gay marriage isn’t a debate anymore so yes they should be shunned. Especially when the basis of their hate is believing in colonizer fairy tales

I usually roll my eyes at the Right saying the Left is "anti free speech" but social media has made this a real problem on all sides of the political aisle.
Social media takes ZERO effort and allows thousands of emotional and lemming-like supporters to go after someone or an issue by retweeting or adding a hashtag. Back in the day you could go after biased reporting or crazy editorials by writing a letter to the editor or even getting a counter-editorial published that required critical thinking and writing ability. It took longer but it was more likely to endure.
I really am happy the NYT published Cotton's editorial since it showed everyone what time it was with the elite on all sides getting antsy about civil disobedience. I want these people to tell on themselves and their underlying authoritarian tendencies. I like knowing where people stand, not smiling in my face like I'm an idiot. I want eloquent Black people to refute their garbage with facts and tight logic in readable counter-editorials. That's why I enjoy @Booksnrain long ass posts
Saying someone should be fire for writing something, unless it is truly atrocious isn't usually a good idea. Embarrass their ideas and they will self-correct themselves or go to another echo chamber publication.

Thanks tho. Usually I just be thinking out loud. But I agree. There’s definitely something to be said about hashing our ideas in a written format. The whole 150 characters or less doesn’t really lend itself to in depth ruminations and intellectual exploration. But it’s a sign of our current generation’s intellectual ADHD. Many kids these days may go thru life never having read more than a handful of novels from start to finish which is tragic to me.
