The attention to detail of Japanese people is crazy. Look at how they clean trains and subways

To me, boston subway was decent. Only issue i had with it is how confusing that boston lays their shyt out being from out of town. It was a headache even using the smart phone for help. Nyc doesnt get its respect in terms of it being easy to find whereever and the subway covers enough ground. Boston is on some north means south and west is south with its subways ans geography. Theyre on some too smart that its just dumb up there.

I remember being lost for an hour at the goverment center looking for the right train stop. Never again

It ain’t the responsibility, they’re overworked to the point they’re killing themselves. They don’t get any time for extracurricular activities and it’s weighing on them big time

I’m just speaking in my experience. The people I interacted with were nice people who seemed pleasant in the service based interactions I had (restaurants, train stations, cabs, tour guide, hospitality etc.)

Adding to this point the cost of living and food is way cheaper in Japan than America especially than NYC. A big problem with America is the rent is too damn high it's harder to get people to give a fukk about jobs when they barely get you by if at all. In Japan you can turn that sanitation job into a living. You won't be balling but you can live decently and like you said people won't clown you for it and be constantly expecting you to upgrade.

Yeah the way my boy put it to me was that it's a cultural hold over from their history. They are, by nature, a virtuous people. Dedication to a craft, no matter what it is, is seen as noble and admirable.
So if you're a shoe salesman, your objective isn't to work till you don't have to do that any more. It's to be the best shoe salesman in the province. To the point where you come up with tricks and systems to streamline your own personal shoe selling process. And because there's no stigmas and because the society supports those choices, there's no existential desire to always "upgrade", as you said.

On the flipside, that means that you don't have as many ambitious people which trickles into a ton of shyt that requires passion...dating and sex life being one of them...hence their shrinking population.

The train cleaner isn’t the only reason the train is clean. Japanese people are just cleaner in general compared to NYC and American people. They don’t litter. They don’t walk out of the house with scum on their body, and they don’t leave a mess on the train. NYC is just filled with trash people

Better is subjective though. I'm not saying I don't understand the sentiment, but there's positives and negatives to it all. When you have a society like Japan's that doesn't shun you for your career choices/hobbies you get "herbivore men". Basically, there's a subset of men in Japan that have no interest in women, social ties, or career advancement. If they do JUST enough to get by they'll just stay in the crib and jack off to hentai and call it a day. Its widespread enough that they are having not just population replacement issues, but job replacement issues as well.

One thing about America is that ambition isn't ever questioned or looked down upon. So if you want to "advance" there's always a lane for you if you want to take it. Not only that, but we openly encourage monetizable ideas no matter how stupid they are. If it makes money, it's valid. I'm not saying that's great for society...but if you're an ambitious person, there's almost no better place than the US.
