Shane Battier's numbers game - Heat Index Blog - ESPN

The numbers don't lie.

Game 1: 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting, 4 3-pointers, zero turnovers, and solid D

Game 2: 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting, 5 3-pointers, zero turnovers, solid D, and a Heat W

During the regular season, he shot 38% from the floor and 33% from beyond the arc. :scusthov:

Needless to say, no one saw this coming.

If the Miami Heat go on to win the ship, people likely won't focus on the Skull Wrinkle's contributions. The spotlight will likely fall on how LBJ finally did enough to get that ring, or how Wade rose to the occasion. And that story will be hopelessly incomplete.

Make no mistake about it, everyone should know that the Heat wouldn't have had a shot at winning the first game in OKC and definitely wouldn't have pulled out a crucial game two road victory without Shane "fukking" Battier.

LBJ knows the drill:
“Going against him in my career, I understood how smart he was, I understood how competitive he was, especially on the defensive end,” James said. “I was very excited when we were able to sign him in the offseason. He’s a big part of why we’re here today and competing for a championship. He’s meant a lot for our team and a lot to me.”

His teammates laud his versatility as a defender and recognize the importance of his 3-point shooting.

His performance two games in is a reminder that championships are a team product. The superstars (LBJ, Wade, Bosh, KD, Russy, and Harden) can't do it by themselves. Sure they'll grab all the headlines and undoubtedly get all the credit, but we should all understand that LBJ and KD won't be getting that first ring without help from their teammates--"the role players".

We gave Sefolosha his due after game one. Let's applaud Battier now. We'll see if he can keep it up, but for now you can't deny the impact.

Are people actually denying the offensive impact of Battier? Next topic, please...

So as long as they keep doubling Bron or Wade, the ball will rotate to him for those open looks.

What's surprising the hell out of me is when he drives to the basket with the speed of a turtle and hits a shot.

so them boys being up by 17 is cuz of mean mug?

Yes, yes it is.. Perk was horrible defensively and offensively the first 8 minutes of the game.. It was the same story in the Spurs series until Scott Brooks smartened up and sat him down earlier. He really shouldnt even be seeing more than 5 minutes per game in this series.

That Perkins dribble drive where he hooked the defender, got called for the offensive foul and got mad was pure comedy to me.
