French montana maino asap rocky cameron dipset mobb deep etc fabalous etc are all regional rappers too. Only south rappers are known here or we listen to our own. So I don't get this thread. Hip hop isn't the nba where u have the opportunity to come from anywhere the market favors ny. West coast rappers work harder than east coast tho

dipset, fabulous & mobb deep were not regional.

asap seems to be more of a hipster thing. French is just a leech/socialite. theres nowhere to classify those two.

the closest you came to a correct example is maino but hes not popular enough to be regional. hes moreso local new york. and hes just a guy that's moreso respected for off-wax stuff.

The Bay has no superstars because every artist from there literally makes the same shyt over and over again. It's the only area that actually has a "sound" and every artist re-produces it the exact same way the previous one did. Same kind of beat, exact same kind of flow, talking about the same thing.

Case in point; The Bay has one artist & only one song in their history.

Dipset fab mobb deep are regional. Nas jay busta 50 cent and some other ny rappers are really known out in here in California. We heard of them but we don't really play they music or talk about them. They bigger on east coast or south. If they national than e40 and short is national

theres more to the country than just new York & California breh. theres 48 other states.

and you mentioned that the only outsiders yall rock with right now are south rappers, but the south aint checkin for yall at all.

prime too short wasn't regional. I don't know why youre trying to group him with e-40.

FYI, I came in here defending yall. but yall make it hard. pause.

now bay area nikkas have resorted to championing a guy widely recorgnized as one of the biggest sell out rappers in hip hop history just because he sold records :laff: :laff: :whew:

i lost 30 mil so i spent another 30
cos unlike hammer 30 million can't hurt me

hov shytted on the entire legacy of the biggest rapper from the bay in 2 bars :wow:

his name has basically become synonymous with going broke :russ:

OP's words, OP's criteria:

"Rap superstar means ur popular and known nationwide with major impact weather good or bad"

MC Hammer whether you like him or not, fit's OP's criteria to a T, and was at one point more popular in his era than the artist OP named from other regions in their era. OP lost. Anyone trying to back OP's argument lost.

40 got MAJOR airplay down here in The South. 40's about regional as Dipset, Mob Deep and others. Honestly.

Midwest as in Kansas city? which is basically the bay.

all radio aint the same breh. aint none of those names getting national airplay except Kendrick - and we know why he gets play.

and I like nipsey, btw. i was one of the 1st people hyping him up on sohh. but I couldn't get a physical mixtape or nothing on him at the time when I was living down south. bootleggers would just say "that's that west coast stuff".

yall be alright tho. I remember yall having all types of chit poppin when I was a young whipper-snapper. it'll come back around.

mc hammer at his peak = biggest rap superstar ever.
yall better cut the chit and give the man his props.

digital underground & too short had that wave.

I know he got play but its not as serious as yall try to make it seem.

dipset got mad love down south. I think yall tend to downplay because they were on the indie grind.

its levels to this.

e-40/mobb would be a better comparison.

Dipset were probably the most Southern-friendly rappers from NYC outside of the megastars(Jay-Z, 50, etc). But 40 has had Southern Indie connections since the 90's and it carried over to the 00's after Mac Dre passed in 2004. 40's peak might not have been on Dipset levels, but the longevity of his popularity in The South surpasses Dipset. He still gets featured on the major tracks of popular artist 25+ years into the rap game. Dipset peaked, and fell off, and bounced.
