The Beastie Boys deserve strong consideration for GOAT group - they are right there w/ Mobb, Wu etc

License to Ill, Paul's Boutique, Ill Communication....all 3 are certified classics... and Hello Nasty and Check Your Head are easily 4-4.5 / 5 albums.

Let's not forget how their sound revolutionized an era and really gave birth to LL Cool J. Rick Rubin is still one of the most sought after producers in the game. And his/Beastie Boys sound is VERY distinct.

Mobb and Wu have some great albums but definitely not 3 certified classics. Only group that can rival Beasties greatness is Outkast... but again I think a strong case can be made on just how much influence these dudes had on Hip Hop during the Golden Years.

:what: That was Rick's sound not theirs and LL had it first. Their sound was established post Paul's Boutique.

As a Pop group you can make a case but Hip Hop wasn't funkin with them after the ILL Communication(really Licensed To Ill).

They are a great Hip Hop group but there were quite a few better.

Also Larry Smith revolutionized that era when he dropped Sucker MCs in 83.
