C'mon man. They already had an "alternative" sound by the time Paul's Boutique dropped. They didn't have much influence on how hip-hop would sound in the years after they debuted.
The urban audience had moved on from the Beasties after Paul's Boutique dropped. So no, they can't be greatest "hip-hop" anything. Only someone who used the Beasties as a gateway into hip-hop would think this way.

they only had that one album, which was mostly written by run dmc - a much better group that OP didnt even acknowledge.

im a known beasties supporter here, but threads like this are the reason why they get brushed off by alot of posters.
