I always loved this storytelling joint from Murs. The cool thing about this one (@old boy you'll dig this) is that Murs and 9th hadn't met yet, and 9th picked all 3 of these beats, in this order, for Murs to write to. So Murs had to hear these 3 beats, and some up with something that would fit. It ended up being a story about loyalty, guns, gang violence, and revenge. Murs isn't my favorite rapper on earth but I think the way this song was crafted elevate how good it is.

These may not even count because they morph into each other without a hard switch, but Just Blaze took the first beat (Enemies) and slowly morphed the last 45 seconds of it until it becomes the 2nd beat (Friends). And FWIW Friends is a much doper beat and more creative sample flip than it gets credit for. It's easily one of Just's most underrated beats.

word now that you mention it i was kind of wondering if you were on that southern wave at all when it came to production


btw that murs was incredible. embarrassed to say that i have never heard a murs album in my life & why i have no idea. but duke was dropping some jewels on that track. are you a fan of his or is it just the production on that particular track that caught your ear? that beat switch at a minute in was absolutely inappropriate. dope shyt and he floated on it too, think i'm gonna have to make it my mission to really delve into murs work in the upcoming weeks

Breh Murs is a strange cat. Honestly I’d never heard of him. I was working on the scene in NC and just remember Murs coming down and 9th Wonder producing a whole album for him. So that’s what made me listen to Murs.

He’s a decent emcee. He’s a unique cat. He’s kind of a skater mixed with a hippie mixed with a forger gang banger. He’s got the most consistently sexually graphic music I’ve ever heard but is also kind of simp-ish too? His first album with 9th (they ended up doing more than half a dozen) has 3 girl joints that range from crying about not getting girls, to him dogging them out, to sex tales from touring. He’s all over the place with women, and they’re maybe the primary theme of his music.

The first two albums he did with 9th (3:16 and Murray’s Revenge) are my favorite Murs projects. Fornever has more of a west coast sound. Lemme know what you think if you listen.
