Above the fray.
Ghana pandered to americans for $$$$ with no intentions of actually embracing ADOS. It's beautiful country to visit and it's lit out there in Accra but don't fall for the bullshyt

a piece by GMA about the black panther effect right before the new movie comes out.....propaganda
Ghana has been one of the leading destinations for African American expats since the 1950s. Not because I say do, but because the facts support it.
Nkrumah, who went to school here, recruited the cream of the crop AA engineers, architects, doctors, and political administrators to help develop Ghana after they became independent.

W.E.B. Dubois was invited there for his final years, and his buried there.

That country has attracted the top professionals, artists, scientists from America since then.

The migration that heads in the direction of a developed country TO a developing country is usually well educated and accomplished people who start encountering the glass ceiling. They have the resources, experience, and vision to take the leap and make it work.

I’m probably the only one who feels this way, but they need to build these artistic creations, infrastructures, and technology with Afrocentric influence rather than a westernized view of what is African. I don’t think adopting and lionizing Black Panther is a good idea

Take our capitol building for example, the European-esque high relief statues, Doric through corinthian orders, and the dome rotunda are all intentionally placed iconographic pieces made to tell the story of Greece, Rome, Europe and whiteness. Whites always build upon past white creations. If Africans continue to adopt western concepts of what Africa should in a post colonial world (not really), they’ll essentially perpetuate the projection of white superiority into the subconscious. Black Panther is cool and all but the comics and the films are still loaded with racism and westernize propaganda

Find old gods and heroes of Ghana to immortalize instead

Replace Zeus with Shango (probably not Ghanaian)
Ghanaian popular culture and media embraces the heroes and traditions from THEIR ethnicities, others from the region, continent and the diaspora.

Their world existed before Black Panther and will afterwards. Ghallywood, Kumasiwood, Nollywood, AA created, Jamaica created content (film, music, art, fashion, food) and other English speaking Black creators have been consumed and enjoyed there for decades.

That's a beautiful piece. People like to make fun and call others corny for using the Black Panther movie as if it's real life, but shyt, what if it could be. Others use imaginary and sci-fi for inspiration to build their futures all the time.

Accra is one of my dream destinations to visit and hope I get to go soon.

I'm not really one of those types that's always fighting for symbolism or representation, but I know it's important and that it can spark up things in people.

I fully understand that Black Panther is a fictional character and world created by cacs and distributed and marketed by Disney simply to monetize the lack of said fictional symbols hat exist in entertainment for black people. However, if it can make black kids happy and even spark that hunger in black people to strive for us to create better relationships with each other and a stronger community - then I'm all for it :yeshrug:

I've said it before but I feel like black people's socioeconomic status globally will change, might not be drastic at first, but will change for the better the moment we have that one nation that can break through and become relatively self-sufficient and successful. Much like how the Civil Rights movement improved the lives of most black people in the western world. We just need that one foothold.

For clarification, I'm not saying that Black Panther is/was the catalyst for what's happening with Ghana

Mothafukkas acting like Africa didn’t exist before black panther. As an African we have nothing to share with westerners. Leave our culture and continent alone. I would prefer if if they just left us alone. :pacspit:
