C3 was one of those albums that just felt too big to fail. It didn't really matter what the content was, it was just his time. This was the anointing but all the work had already been done with the features and mixtape run of the prior couple of years.

It reminds me of GRODT in that respect. I think both albums are pretty good but they're considered classics more in terms of how they crowned a new superstar in hip hop and sold a lot of records.

Yea it could've and should've been a lot better. But the anticipation wiped out the expectations. Summer of 08 The Carter 3 hit like a tsunami. A Milli was heard on every single block in America.

i think 3.5 is too high. it was definitely being heralded as an instant classic but i never cared for it. actually a lot of the criticism im seeing for his new album applies to the music he was making back then. he probably raps better today.

It was the culmination of his climb to the top of the rap game. A true commercial success and effort through and through.

Honestly tho it sold off his hype. Commercial succes, no doubt, but just off hype. No different than when GRODT dropped. They could fart on track and it woulda sold.

But C3 QUICKLY fell off rotations and discussions once the hype died.

Wayne was like that athlete who benefited from playing in a washed up era.

Fans were desperate for any kind of music and Carter 3 was overhyped by a lot of people.

That late 00s era was one of the worst era's in music history...PERIOD, not just in Hip Hop field. There was so much mediocrity and just lazy effort projects....and most of them aged like shyt.

I don't read those top something lists cause they suck most of the time, but I imagine if I tried finding one about top albums from 2008 of all genres, then Carter 3 would be somewhere at the top....cause really what albums do you remember from that year?
