Do you think reagan and bush sr. Knew the challenger was faulty beforehand?

I don't think they would have known. I think the heads of NASA were more concern with not hitting schedule dates that would fukk up NASA funding. So they said fukk it lets roll.

I definitely don't think the president or VP would want the space shuttle to blow up during live TV. Thats a PR nightmare nationally and globally.

Cliffs:
- Basically all of the engineers at NASA knew that shuttle would explode because of technical problems and did everything to warn upper management to not launch until the issues were corrected.

- NASA management had a conference call with the engineers the night before the launch and pressured them to reverse their original position and agree that the launch was safe

- Management did not care because they were under pressure because they promised congress that space flying would be like commercial airlines and needed the funding

- They tried to cover up the cause for the explosion

Sickest part was a lot of the management were interviewed for this and basically said had they known what they know now, that they still would have done it. One said something to the effect of, "This is how technology moves forward."
They knowingly sacrificed 7 lives for "science" :hhh:

Yeah science has always had this dark side. Nazi’s used to do all types of human experiments on Jewish people. I wanna say it happened to black people in slavery days as well. Countries like China and NK openly do this today.

Thats why western countries put so much into ethics when it comes to science. You usually have to do a shyt load of testing before you can move on to human trials.

Yea that was a pretty fascinating documentary. Human nature never ceases to amaze me.

A few people are on here making comments not knowing wtf they talking about as usual. This was a completely avoidable situation, and had nothing to do with advancing science.

Those O rings on the solid rocket boosters repeatedly failed and faired even worse in cold weather. This was a known fact to the contractors and NASA. The shuttle launched on one of the coldest days of the year and some people knew what would inevitably happen but they were ignored/overruled.

That dude Larry Mulloy and his supervisor were pretty much the main ones responsible and neither expressed guilt or sympathy. Was watching it with my old lady and said those men were practically a case study on the white man’s sociopathic nature.

Yep it had to do with the o rings. Yeah folks making this a conspiracy and its really not. More so negligence and at that time a space shuttle cost about 1 billion and a few 100 million to launch so ain't no way anyone wanted any of them jokers to blow up.

years later this and Columbia ended the shuttle program forever so they achieved nothing.

now when they wanna get people to the space station they gotta hitch a ride with the Chinese or Russians, while Elon and his crew are doing the work they should be doing themselves. This is part of the reason Elon will be around for a while undisturbed. They need his people to fill in so many gaps they either can’t fill or created as a result of their own ineptitude.

the entire attitude about the space program needs to be a trillion times better than what it is. shyt literally needs to be national events for these launches.

I'm not disagreeing with that, but if you know something is faulty and will explode and kill people, how is continuing forward advancing? This wasn't something they thought was going to work and just a random freak accident happened. They knew it was faulty already. This was more greed than science

exactly right about the mission and moving forward as “advancing science.” But in the long term if NASAs goal is to advance science this does the opposite. There’s huge risk in all this. Things could fukk up and people can die and it’ll be the fault of no one. Next time this happens and that’s the case why would you believe them? Why would you trust them with stuff like this?

There's a chance Regan had an idea. When he setup the commission to investigate, he was quoted as saying something to the effect of, "Don't go too hard on NASA. We're going to need them for the future."

I don't think he knew exactly what they were doing, but he was probably aware they were on some 'By any means' shiit

I hate to cosign science, but I'm just trying to take the emotion out of it...

Ppl probably gotta die, for certain advancements to move forward. Its just like the whole Mars colony shyt. Those initial dummies heading up, are probably gonna die...:yeshrug:

Elon Musk said as much, and I think many of these ppl going, have already came to terms with not coming back. Its a necessary evil I guess, for future settlers, to eventually thrive out there. If ppl didn't put their lives on the line, we probably wouldn't have airplanes, vaccines, etc.

Unlike the Mars situation, these ppl probably didn't know they were deemed expendable, and being misled is an issue tho.

breh, you don’t need Elon Musk to tell you the mars mission will be dangerous as hell and utterly miserable for the people that volunteer and that they know that. If all goes well they’re gonna live drastically below their natural lifespan and that may honestly be a mercy.

It’s almost a sure thing that there will be completely unforeseen issues that will cause the mission to fail or make it more difficult or miserable for the colonists.

if there are issues loudly voiced and able to be addressed that are ignored that is unforgivable and should be and outrage.

if time is taken and the issue is addressed and believed fixed and thoroughly vetted but still fails? You live with it. There’s a calculated risk and then there’s negligence. ignoring it and going forward doesn’t advanced science, it sets it back generations.

I guarantee those people knew it could be their last day breathing, but also thought every precaution was taken to make sure it wasn’t. And it wasn’t.

I may be wrong but did someone post an updated picture of this crew a few years ago, saying that they really didn’t die? The poster said that it was a lie like 9/11.

Groupthink - Wikipedia

i did a paper on this for my politics and technology class in college. i read a lot about it, so i probably know most of it, but i'll check the doc anyway. it's very intersting and completely fukked up. they got did dirty by NASA being negligent and worrying about optics. instead they created worse optics for themselves smh.
