cavs were like a 5th seed for most of last last year but catapulted when allen went down
and yeah this moves them up

Nah they started sucking when Mobley got injured too. They were up there in the standings.
There’s nothing promising about Obi Toppin. Ain’t he like 24 already

Turns 25 in March.

Ask Rudy Gobert how overrated a guard being able to stay in front of his man is. Being a turnstile forces your defense into rotation way sooner and more often in a possession and increases the chance of a breakdown somewhere. How do you think teams generate 3’s and layups :jbhmm:

Conversely Mitchell couldn't really commit a lot to defense given that the Jazz would go on awful scoring droughts because no one else on the Jazz could create their own shot and Rudy was a negative on offense. Mitch can now play marginally better defense and is surrounded by guys who have far more scoring potential.

My Pops Forever RIP
1. How the hell did the Knicks fumble that bag?
2. How did Utah get less for Donovan Mitchell then they did for Rudy gobert.
3. This makes what Minnesota did look even dumber
4. The East central division is going to be a bloodbath

1. debatable as to whether it was fumbled. It's just now they have to go back and pray for more internal growth which is nice, but kinda discouraging at the same time. It makes the Dieng trade on draft night look much weirder.
2/3. Ainge in reality got the same thing from both teams. He got a bunch of future picks, most unprotected. He got both their picks this year (in Agbaji's case he went lotto). Much of their roster /rotation is gonna be comprised of the players they received.

Kessler, Vando, Beasley, Markannen, Sexton, Stanley Johnson (for Pat Bev) are all locked into rotation spots and then Agbaji and THT (for Pat Bev) will factor in more after deals get made. All that + future 1's came from those deals. What one lacked in extra picks they had in a $72 mil young guard. In effect, it's a wash. The only reason why one trade has a significantly different reaction than the other is because we by and large love Spida while the other guy to us might as well be Shawn Bradley even though numbers tell us something very differently.

Both teams are putting a lot of pressure on their SF's to be the big x-factor for their respective teams.

4. The Central was already that. If anything, it primes them up to be the toughest in the league in 2 years.

I think this is a lateral move for the Cavs, at best. I’m actually tempted to call this a bad trade. Donovan Mitchell is not a first option scorer—his shot selection is too poor. And yeah, people will say that Garland’s playmaking ability and high level fourth quarter play can offset that but I’m not sure that’s going to be enough to compensate for the scoring droughts I can see happening.

In addition, what made Cleveland so good last year was their tremendous front court size that obviously made their D elite, but also allowed them to pressure the offensive boards as Garland create havoc with the pnr. With less size out there, I see the Cavs getting weaker on D and losing an element of causing havoc in the paint (though I think that issue pales in comparison to the negative impact of having two small guards who can’t play defence well, in part because of their size).

I dunno brehs. I know Donovan Mitchell is a big name but he’s one dimensional and not really efficient at the one thing he’s really good at (scoring). Losing size at the SF position (size that can shoot no less) and getting smaller on the perimeter, worse defensively on the perimeter, and losing the spacing that Lauri provided is going to hurt them. It’s gonna be sad in a few years when they learn they went all in with picks only to end up in the 3-5 seed every year and never getting past the second round.

This was a great trade for Cleveland. The only loss was Sexton but Mitchell overall is a much better player.

Mitchell>>>Sexton. It's a no-brainer.

It makes them serious playoff contenders and I could see them being top 4 in the east.

Garland and Mitchell gonna be lethal.

Ppl shyt on Mitchell (and I don't understand why) but nevertheless he leads you to the playoffs. Everybody isn't gonna win the championship some fans gotta learn to be satisfied with their team being just playoff contenders. It's better than nothing.

Ask Sacramento, Washington, etc, fans how missing the playoffs every year feels...

This.

I'm still trying to understand why he's being portrayed as one of them dudes when he's clearly not. Him being the best player on the roster is a perpetual low seed playoff team.
