Is Mitch willing to turn down the 5th year that the Cavs can offer and no other team can’t? That’s essentially what it comes down to.

Those are superstars. You put together a team like that and then you have to lack depth and they have to play insane every game. (KD did and LeBron did with Wade). Giannis and Joker won with deep teams full of all star caliber players and high level role players. The latter model is more sustainable.
But to your point, Donovan does need to go play with a superstar because I don’t think he’s one himself.
I don’t think you can win a title with him as your #1 guy and have always said that, so his point is correct.
Yea, historically you're gonna have a hard time winning with a small guard as your #1. Even the best of them in Curry, his two wins as the bonafide #1 (2015, 2022) were a bit rough with fortunate circumstances (CLE) and general incompetence (BOS) getting them through the finish line.
So for the guards below him... i.e. Mitch, Ja, Fox, Trae, Brunson... realistically their optimal role is probably a #2 or 1b in spot moments... aka the Kyrie Irving (or Jamal Murray) role. It's hard to keep the necessary efficiency/PER up when you're undersized and the primary focus of playoff defenses.

While this season has been kinda shytty to start, everyone saying the Cavs roster "isn't working" has ignored the insane amount of injuries they've had so far, I think the starting lineup they envisioned has only been available for 4 games or something like that. They brought in Strus and Niang, who have been playing well, they just need health.
