im probably gonna get negged to death for saying this, but i was thinking about something while watching 12 years a slave and 42.

i honestly believe that if you took a slave from the 1800s and a black man living in the south in the jim crow era and somehow brought them forward in time to now, they would laugh at what ya call oppression. they would call you all a bunch of soft ass bytches and tell you to man the fukk up and stop crying.

jim crow era black man - "what? the police locked u up for no reason? my daddy got lynched for no reason"

slave - "what? some cracker you dont know and will never see hid behind something(a computer) and called you a ******? you lucky u could read that shyt. if i learned how to read they would hang me"

all i ever read on the coli is dudes saying the same thing every time injustice happens. injustice will always happen. what i never read is solutions. some dude made a thread about supporting black business and it went like 3 pages and died but every time some random generic cacs say racist shyt about athletes on twitter, shyt goes like 20 pages in a week. you coli dudes can be a little lame man.

oh, you are one of those nihilist who have no belief in our race as a collective huh? Whatever man. I've read the history, I study the trends, I have optimism in the work I do with my people. It's not some Marxist revolution where we remove the government spontaneously...it takes time through education, local political behavior from black leadership, changing voting blocs in politics, unionism shifts, and most important social movements in the community.

You aren't respecting the history and evolution of the political economy over the last 100 years. Go read the book Race Issues by Sundiata Keitha Cha-Jua et al...it addresses and kills your idea in the first 2 chapters..trust me, you will love what you read because it uses the very history you suggest and shows you how white hegemony transforms over time

what exactly are you saying here, that because Black people can read and aren't getting hanged from lampposts that we have no room to complain because someone else had it harder than us?



If someone from the Jim Crow era or even the era of slavery could see the collective condition of Black people now, they would probably lose all hope for us, at least during slavery, Black people knew who their enemy was, during Jim Crow Black people weren't killing each other by the 10's of thousands over petty bullshyt, I'd argue that we're in worse shape now than we were in during Jim Crow.

we can read, have access to computers and other nice things, but we still don't own shyt in this country, Black women are aborting nearly 1,000,000 Black babies per year, black on black crime is out of hand, there are more Black prisoners than any other nationality in this country, we're number one in heart disease in this country and the list goes on.

anyone who thinks we're somehow better off than we were in an era when we actually had a sense of community and togetherness as a people, is absolutely insane, Black people in 2014 barely trust each other and you can't get more than 10 of us in a room at any given time without some bullshyt kicking off.

Where are you getting this from anything @Matt504 is saying? he is not saying we are waiting on some utopian dream bullshyt..we are fightiing a battle to overthrow white hegemony and capitalist oppression, that's what we are doing. We're stuck on racism while the economy and structure is unstable and fukked up. Things like gay rights and racism are just things to occupy our time with so we spend less time focusing on the real problems. It's like giving a cat a ball of yarn to play with so it doesn't pay attention to you filling to bathtub with the water in which you're about to drown it. Time isn't on our side, even if the masses took 5 mins away from their IG/FB/twitter time, even if they weren't busy working 2-3 jobs trying to keep food in their kids' mouths, even if they weren't busy twerkin and taking selfies, even if they gave a flying fukk about being educated we still wouldn't have enough time.
