The difference is that his movies are mesh with meta commentary that works for white folks to see the black struggle, while black folks treat his flicks like Tuesday.

Movies like The Color Purple, The Help, 12 Years a Slave, etc beat a dead horse and lessens the stance of black strength. Thus why those movies are "critically acclaimed" to white folks, but movies like Boomerang, Life, Dead Presidents, etc are forgettable Tubi trash in their eye

We need more movies like that to push for black everyday life, versus past struggle and pain.

That wouldve been unnecessary too. It's not star wars or some special effects heavy movie you gotta see on the big screen. It's probably on one of the streamers at any time and you can probably buy the Blu Ray for bout $10.

But here I kinda get what their logic was and I dont think they considered it a "remake" since it was really adapting the broadway musical, just like The Wiz (also a flop back in the day) was a different spin but they swung and missed cause shyt wasn't necessary.

Studios gotta chill with the constant cash grab sequels and remakes. The remake rarely improves on the original so it's pointless. In the 70s/80s it might've made sense before cable and video took off. If people (kids) won't watch something just cause it's old

Aside from Malcolm X and maybe The Wiz, it's probably the most revered black movie in my lifetime.

I’ve literally never had a discussion in real life with another man about this movie. I don’t care for it, but because I never speak on it doesn’t mean I like it or think it’s a classic.

The Color Purple is a movie that black women will talk about liking............ in public. And contrary to popular belief, black women don’t speak for black people as a whole.

My parents aren’t FBA and I was born in ‘86. Is it worth a watch?

My Wife is South Florida born and raised. She’s seen it. Gen Y watch 80’s movies like that? Who would show a child the Color Purple?

I can probably name 5 80’s movies I’ve seen. Predator is one and my top 10 all time favorite. Outside predator…..

Maybe in the weird one. Y’all watch 70’s movies as well? Coli Brehs watching Sydney Pottier the GAWD.
