Are they? Jordan Peele just dresses it up differently in his movies

The difference is that his movies are mesh with meta commentary that works for white folks to see the black struggle, while black folks treat his flicks like Tuesday.

Movies like The Color Purple, The Help, 12 Years a Slave, etc beat a dead horse and lessens the stance of black strength. Thus why those movies are "critically acclaimed" to white folks, but movies like Boomerang, Life, Dead Presidents, etc are forgettable Tubi trash in their eye :francis:

We need more movies like that to push for black everyday life, versus past struggle and pain.

A remake made no sense. Probably were better off just re releasing the old movie
That wouldve been unnecessary too. It's not star wars or some special effects heavy movie you gotta see on the big screen. It's probably on one of the streamers at any time and you can probably buy the Blu Ray for bout $10.

But here I kinda get what their logic was and I dont think they considered it a "remake" since it was really adapting the broadway musical, just like The Wiz (also a flop back in the day) was a different spin but they swung and missed cause shyt wasn't necessary.

Studios gotta chill with the constant cash grab sequels and remakes. The remake rarely improves on the original so it's pointless. In the 70s/80s it might've made sense before cable and video took off. If people (kids) won't watch something just cause it's old :manny:

/thread.

99% of this thread is a bunch of perpetually online n*ggas regurgitating shyt they've been indoctrinated with via Youtube and social media. I've literally never come across a single black person in my entire life that had an issue with The Color Purple. Aside from Malcolm X and maybe The Wiz, it's probably the most revered black movie in my lifetime.

So of course TLR is against it, lol.
Or some people who did not like it have a platform to express their dislike for something. Plenty of people will dislike shyt you like (as is this case with this shyt flopping). You can either force people to like what you like using force (you won't lol) or you can fukking deal with it. :manny:

I’ve literally never had a discussion in real life with another man about this movie. I don’t care for it, but because I never speak on it doesn’t mean I like it or think it’s a classic.

The Color Purple is a movie that black women will talk about liking............ in public. And contrary to popular belief, black women don’t speak for black people as a whole.

I'm sure you did. But that doesn't mean anything. The point is that plenty of people dislike it as well. Just because you never encountered those people doesn't mean they don't exist. The point is that some people will like shyt and some will not. Some not liking shyt is not a big surprise. Being upset about that is being silly.

Just like FBA/ADOS shyt, it's mostly online

(Yes, it's growing, but most ppl ain't on it to the level)

The movie failing flopping had most likely nothing to do with ppl being tired of "slave movies"

My parents aren’t FBA and I was born in ‘86. Is it worth a watch?
:lupe:
My Wife is South Florida born and raised. She’s seen it. Gen Y watch 80’s movies like that? Who would show a child the Color Purple?
:patrice:
I can probably name 5 80’s movies I’ve seen. Predator is one and my top 10 all time favorite. Outside predator…..
:jbhmm:
Maybe in the weird one. Y’all watch 70’s movies as well? Coli Brehs watching Sydney Pottier the GAWD.

the iconic scenes in the OG are iconic for a reason. Lots of comedy both intentional and unintentional. Showing life back in that time was pretty cool too.

the musical remake was solid to me. :yeshrug:

not better than the classic traditional joint, but still solid.

Fantasia is cool with me

but nobody asked for this. We tired of Black movies being propaganda to beat us down. We off that

You might have a Georgia bias, sir, what would ppl who didn't grow up in Middle Georgia like me and you did, think?

🤔

Parts of this movie could very easily pass for 80s Newnan. Spielberg did a good job.

The about to redo Miami Vice again sans Jamie Fox and Colin Ferrell. I don’t even think Michael Mann will be attached to it.
:heh:
Who is a youngish black star that would play Tubbs? If it’s a trash director producer team MBJ should avoid.
:mjlol:

A movie that got 11 oscar nominations and didn't win anything is still ridiculous. Biggest movie snub ever.
