Depends. If you’re in the city and your bread is looking mediocre, what’s the damn point. That less than stellar $ could be better served in the so called county rather than an infinite struggle to make ends meat in major cities that will ALWAYS prioritize the (financial) ruling class.
Here in NY it is flat out pointless (financially) being here in your late 20s+ and working some BS job and the prospect of legit advancement is murky at best.
It might be “popping” here but most people in this city are broke AF. Now, there are tons of people with money but there’s little to no trickle down and the influx of outsiders in wild. you want $ here then get a corporate gig because the only non office people here getting paper here play for the Yankees and Knicks.
