Not sure why you're being defensive.
Not shytting on Chicago but just saying when you're young and want the city life like clubbing and culture, you probably want to live in Atlanta, NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.

As you get older though, that shyt is less appealing and some isolation from the hustle and bustle is preferred which is why, like I said, no one is retiring to live in these places. They want to go somewhere they can enjoy the beauty of mother Earth and get peace and quiet .
You just named some of the most expensive places of corse th they are not retirement destinations.

And as far as Atlanta I know mad people that moved there to retire. 2 min my immediate family and they live in Brookhaven and midtown not the the country

Alot of Haitians, Dominicans, and other islanders in the US are originally from the rural areas of their native countries. I know where you're going as far as this AA vs Islanders thing. But Alot of west indians aren't strangers to rural living.. Go to any islander enclave in the US and you'll see rural characteristics that they brought to the city from their native nation's. Roosters, cutting sugarcane, machetes, etc.
Yup. Plus I think it’s a little silly to expect non-AA Black folks who grew up in Urban cultural enclaves to have the same appeal to the rural South as AA’s do when they have no familial connections, cultural institutions, etc. I can’t get mad at instances of urban elitism when there’s plenty AA’s who unfortunately do the same. Plus Urban to Rural transition is a lot harder then the other way around. Most of us who talk about making that move got some kind foundation to work off of.

This is all true. Are you AA?

Meh, id rather live in a globally important city and enjoy the culture that comes with it. was at an afrobeat party in BK yesterday. when i visted suburban NC and nikkas aint even know the genre existed and they clubs were still playing 2000s lil john

You lose out on alot culturally and socially living in those environments man
Where were you in NC where they didn't know Afrobeat existed? Either way, all this stuff can be found on the internet. No one needs a cosmopolitan world renowned city to immerse themselves in culture. No one needs that in 2018....

These discussions go well, until a group of people get on here trying to insult the intelligence of others or a group of people. In this case, you have black individuals from the city, who feel they’re smarter than those blacks who come from a rural area. They have this sense of superiority, yet in other threads will be on some “we all black, we in this thing together.”

Nah, you’re not with me. I’m not standing with someone who thinks they’re better than me or smarter. I might as well stand with white folks if I’m going to do that, as they have those same feelings.

Raising kids in the city is financial suicide on top of lower quality living. Public schools are shyt, more distractions, poor quality air, too many cars on the road that could hit your kid, no space for them to play.....the burbs are made to raise families. Anyone selfish that cannot admit that, should not be having kids in the first place....

Too many people dont think about the well being of their kids. That's is why a lot of these kids in Generation Z are all fukked up in the head.

Eh.... my family maintained a house in the suburbs and a condo in downtown Chicago that we would leave for on the weekends.

I had a very picturesque childhood but I will not be raising my kids in the suburbs.

We grew up entitled, naive, in a bubble, and really couldn't tie the shoes on our counterparts in the city.

Kids that I met that were like us from the city were more sophisticated then we ever were. Self aware, were both book and street smart, more fashionable and just all around more well-rounded. They had exposure to both diverse people and experiences and I want that for my kids. It wasn't until college that I met my first Haitian who ended up being my girlfriend. I should not have grown up not having any exposure to anyone from the African Diaspora outside of Aframs.

With that being said, I do appreciate the country. I have an aunt and uncle that had a cottage in upper Michigan and we would go with them in the summer to "camp".There is something about man being close to nature, feeding off the land, working off the land, and being able to see the stars at night away from light pollution that feels just right.

I appreciate both and believe everyone should have a balance of both city and country life. As far as raising my kids though, I will be doing that in the city.

you can fish in Brooklyn. There are quiet suburban areas right here in that people never hear about. we have beaches, massive forest like parks,Cruise Terminal, botanical garden, an amusement park, world class museums, free concerts from big name artists in prospect park, businesses and cuisine from the entire African diaspora the list goes on. Give me access to everything i cant to the "simple life "
Rural areas in greater Atlanta offer all of that in proximity to the city. Except the beaches.

Rural areas in Houston, offer all of that within proximity to the city. Including the beaches.
the events, the food, the experiences can not be had online.
They can be had in the South.

Down South we can have our cake and eat it. Rural area next to urban areas. Hella Africans down here. I used to work at a Caribbean spot down here that would routinely host African parties. Afrobeat, Kizomba, you name it.

Didn’t Canes originate in Baton Rouge?

Y’all dont have to worry about that now, as there’s a Canes in Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula.
