most brehs are past this point. All I can recommend is that you don’t pay anything without it being a pay/notice for deletion. Outside of that your goal should be building your credit. New tradelines making sure you pay any bills/debts you have now etc.

Yeah I see, just found this thread today. I’m gonna get a secured card next week for groceries. How would I go about getting that in writing from the third party? Wouldn’t a dispute letter be better since they really don’t own the original debt?

Just keep it real with them when they call you tell them you will pay them a amount but only if they agree to pay it off and make sure they send it in writing. These companies like to re-age credit to keep you on the hook longer. Also if they have sold it to another debt collector dispute it under the guise of they need to provide verification that you owe them in some type of proof.

At this point they are either going to get what you give or they won’t get anything. Depending on your state the statute of limitations has probably ran out end the closer you get to 7 years it can just fall off but pay attention to it

yes it is....And most people never build it back up that's the issue....It's a lot of people who have almost generational bad credit.

What is your full balance each month that you are required to pay?

my minimum goes up based on how much I spend. Right now it’s only 35 bucks. But I pay it off each month or a big chunk of it. My credit utilization is based off all my card so have that $10k limit help me a lot I could spend 1000 each month and still be under 10 percent utilization.

I’ve read not to only pay the minimum but the full amount so your score doesn’t stay the same or drop. If you got a 10K limit and spend 1000 like you said, what would you estimate your full amount required to pay would be?

I would have to pay just $1000. For if I wanted to pay my card fully off for that month. After that payment is recorded to the credit bureau I can start spending on the card again. Just remember after you pay off your card each month wait 4 days before you start spending money off that card. You want to make sure that your card payment has been recorded to the credit bureaus before you start using the card again.
