Admittedly, it's over 40 a week on average. Depends on time of year too. We have a calendar year fiscal so our audit starts late February. We are in budget season right now and it works on a timeline so I was working till 11:30 last night for example.May I ask... how many hours do you typically work in a week?
Everyone I know in accounting does ridiculous hours. Tried dating an accountant once but she never got off work before like 8:00 so it didn't go anywhere.
However, I leave work at 5. If I have extra to do, I do it at home. It is unfortunate that more than 40 is an accepted practice but we have deadlines and time sensitive things that need to be done. Everything a company does intersects with finance so a lot goes on with my department.
What role did this lady you were dating have? As a controller, I was approving purchase orders in Disney World. My involvement is that integral to the day to day business. It's the cost of a six figure job. There are downtimes like immediately after month end close for example but in averaging it out for a year, 45-50 hours is the range, with spikes here and there. I'm still able to do trips, take my son to basketball practices and games. I just might need to divert my attention elsewhere from time to time. The life we lead breh.
