As someone who's not read the books, I left the cinema feeling unfulfilled. There was a lot of exposition that should have been included in the film that wasn't (the origin of the man in black, the war, the gunslingers, the skins, etc.). This film could have benefitted so much from being an extra half an hour longer. There was nothing bad about this film but there wasn't anything particularly good either.

Obviously they changed a lot to make it more "accessible" for audiences but the big problem in this movie comes from being rushed all over the place. As an adaptation of the novels it was always going to be limited, yet you can tell they found a good basis to build a solid story on. But they just didn't build on it and put it bare bones on screen so even the most basic motivations were completely absent. When you turn revelations like Roland being a descendant from King Arthur into a throwaway line in a completely arbitrary place in the movie, you kinda have to know you're just fukking this up.

It wasn't great, but definitely not 19% bad - that's that critic bullshyt.

Movie needed like another half hour to breathe more.

I'm :dwillhuh: that they didn't really explain Walter's/Roland's real history. I mean they showed his father being killed and told us Walter goes after gunslingers/Roland's friends. Their true beef however is even deeper and more personal.

It's hinted at when the MIB says "your softskinned mother" :dame:

I saw it for the 1st time today and I enjoyed it. I know many people complain about it being too short, but I thought the runtime was fine.

Just saw it. Had no idea what it was about; just knew it was based on books (I actually thought it was a comic book since I've seen them before). It's not bad or great.

Elba was cool, but Mcconahey was wack. Couldn't take him serious as a bad guy.

Worth a watch if you have nothing else to do. :ld:
